Hand out lots of M16 and M4 variants.
It makes logistical sense.
AK or any other non M16/M4 variant = FAILURE for logistics
Logistics wins wars and equals success.

There are literally TONS of parts, ammo, complete rifles, etc already on hand.
Why give the militia a TOTALLY different rifle from what the military uses? If something ever were to happen and the militia was needed to supplement the professional military, they could cooridinate logistics with hardly any issues...

All militia issued rifles would have automatic capabilities and you could even have civil service exams for qualifiying for crew served weapons training/issue!!

An AR is kind of expensive to be "handed out". It would have to be something cheaper. I would say an AK, but that would throw off the "American looks" so to speak. An M1 Garand maybe? If not maybe a .30 Carbine, or Springfield bolt rifle from WW1.

Our gov. feeds perfectly good M16's to a shredder daily for which tax dollars have already been paid.
