Not that we have many choices, but I got to taking a good look at the Heines compared to the McCormicks and Trijicons on my guns. Aside from the technicalities regarding space on either side of the front sight as framed by the rear sight I noticed the Heine sight picture gave a far deeper view of the front post (almost the full post) than the other two. I am more accurate with McCormick and wonder about the technicalities.

I have to agree with my friend Ala Dan, the Bo-Mar rear sight when matched with an appropriate front gives the best sight picture I have ever seen.

"Race Cut" Heinie straight eights also have a great sight picture, the best I have seen in Tritium.

They also sell these without the tritium vial. I prefer the blank rear with either a Dawson FO up front for my competition guns or the Heinie tritium up front for carry but they don't like to split up the set it goes with and for some reason won't change it so it's a seperate item.

Novak's for sure. I do want to try a Novak rear with a widened notch to accomodate the XS Sights Big Dot.

I don't particularly care for any one brand of sights. I like the Hi-Viz front sight I put on my Ruger MkII, but I like the solid black sights on my 1989 Colt Government. I don't really care much for dot sights, as I usually don't use the dots...if anything, sometimes they distract me. Some of the easiest sights for me to shoot are the red/orange front sights with the "U" white outline on the rear sight.

I took the small GI sights on my RIA 1911A1 and painted the front sight with a fluorescent green and did the rear with a white "U", and I'm amazed as to how well I shoot with the gun.....Oh yeah, for target shooting, I really don't care for that groove sight on the top of my AMT Backup 45ACP, either......I take each sight for what it is and for its application, or the color of the target and how the sight contrasts or blends in with that target color. I've never had a sight "fail", but I have had a few that didn't want to cooperate as well as others in a certain situation.

Adjustable Bomar rear with fiber-optic front for a comp/range gun.

Fixed Novak's or Heinie sight combo (no FO) for carry use.

For target work, I prefer BO-MAR adjustable rear with matching front post. NO glow worms, NO tritium, etc. For hunting with pistols, my nearly 67 year old eyes prefer using 2X Leupold EER pistol scopes.

Good shooting and be safe.

I like three dot Meprolights on all my guns that will take them.

I bought Trijicons once and found them to be dimmer than the Meprolights and harder to see in the daytime due to smaller dots.

Truglo TFO

I've taken a liking to the Truglo TFO sights.
The fiber works in the light and the tritium works in the dark.

The negatiove is that they are made for only few types of pistols, Kimber, Glock, XD and a couple of Sig sight types.

Fixed Novak's

I like the profile of the Novak sight for no snag, fixed for a carry gun. Also gives me the standard Patridge sight picture I'm used to. Square notch and post.
