so i bought a new saiga in 7.62x39 and i'm going to do the conversion and replace the "Clinton" stock on it but i'm having trouble deciding,i have the right us parts on hand so i can use any stock:D,what would u recommend?

I have black synthetic on mine, but I'm jonesing for a nicely finished red wood one. Another member has posted pictures of one that make me drool.:D

6 position on mine and love it. Works well on the AR-15 why not on an AK? Makes the purists puke that's a plus too!

I made the mistake of getting a Warsaw Pact length stock, which is too short for my taste after mounting a scope. I'm now in the process of retrofitting a Magpul CTR on it instead. If you plan to just use iron sights the Warsaw length might be fine for you; otherwise, I'd go for the NATO length. The K-Var fixed stock is pretty solid though, and it has the trap door for your cleaning kit.

I have an Ace skeleton stock on my 74 and love it. Ace also makes a good buffer tube adapter if you want to throw a multiply position AR style stock, like a Magpul CTR.

Or, yanno, buy a native converted saiga ar-15 alike stock.

Personally I just got a tapco side folder for mine.

I have an ACE side folder on my unconverted Saiga .223. I spent some time with the folks from ACE for the better part of a week last year at Knob Creek and they were able to fit me up with the right stock based on my reach. They do top notch work.

If I only had one AK the stock would be classic wood as is the case with my WASR, in that case refinished to a red/brown.

I classics looks are the worry then timbersmith/tapco makes very nice brand new sets.
I build my systems for accuracy, reliability, versatility and ergonomics.
Classic Looks or any other esthetics over function are not important to me.

I very much like the solid construction, lightweight, and comfort of the Ace skeleton folder...which is what I have on my Saiga-12. That said, my last conversion (7.62x39mm) used a Romanian folder, which requires less modification, is still quite good (though it doesn't look as nice IMO), and is far less costly. If I were doing it over again I would probably go that route despite forgoing the recoil pad (I don't believe it is necessary for an intermediate cartridge AK variant), which can be added if you find it necessary. IIRC I purchased it from either DPH Arms or Carolina Shooters Supply, and can recommend both as good retailers.

:)

I love the ACE skeleton but if you're gonna go legit AK then the Russian skeleton side folder is sweeeeet!! Good Luck on the search..:D

Can't go wrong with either black polymer stock or wood.

I'm planning on replacing the polymer with wood on my SGL, but before I do that I want to try and get the red/burnt orange tones right on the wood. Lots of these "russian red" makeovers look too much like a candied apple for my tastes.

The new systems demand the AK pedigree but versatility over looks is the trend due to the requirements of modern tactics...
