I use FP-10 on my AR-15 (don't have anymore) and pistols, Glock's and SW1911 that see a lot of continuous shooting and Rem Oil on my hunting rifles and shotguns. A while back I started using the FP-10 on my hunting rifles and shotguns too, Marlin 336, Remington 700's, 870, 11-87's, Ruger 10-22.

I just bought a new Remington 7600 Carbine. I have to clean and oil it before I shoot it this weekend. I'm thinking of going back to the Rem Oil on my hunting guns and use the FP-10 on my pistols. What kind of oil do you use?

Thanks, NYH1! ;)

I use wheel bearing grease

Just go to a walmart or auto parts store and buy a bucket of grease for $10 and you'll have a lifetime supply of grease for all your guns. Load it into a few syringes (sans needle) and you'll get a nice little bead of it when you apply it to the gun.

I still use oil to protect the finish of blued guns though. Usually stick with rem oil because that's what I have left over from when I still used oil to lube my guns.

hoppes elite number 9 on everything except on my ar 15 bolt that gets a bath of valvoline full synthetic 5w 30 right before a match.

Break-free CLP for the most part. Have used 10W30 as well, but break-free fits in my rangebag and the small bottle I have has lasted years. RIG grease under the grip panels.

I hate wheel bearing grease with a passion, the only place I use it is wheel bearings, and of course ball joints and such, but those get greased with a gun. I swear if even the smallest amount comes into contact with my skin I can taste it in my mouth. I wear vinyl gloves when working with it.

Zach S, if you love bearing grease that much, you should really LOVE gear fluid! Or friction modifier, that crap is NASTY.

I have been using regular old Hoppe's lubricating oil, seems very thin. I have Motorcraft 5W-30 lying around for when that stuff runs out.

Drippings from the quart bottles after an oil change, always 1 of 2 oils, either 10W-30 or 5W-20 Mobil 1 or Penzoil Platinum. Grease, as the others have said, wheel bearing grease.

Go ahead and shoot me...3-in-1 oil. ;)
3-in-1 has worked great for me for 60 years and I live 500 ft. from salt water. I'm a carpenter and I do not tolerate rust on my tools or my guns.

Auto oils? Really? Besides stinking, I can't imagine them working better than CLP or LSA, and those two are cheap.

I clean with Hoppes 9, the plain stuff. Sweets for copper fouling. Hoppes can be used as a lube, but it isn't the best (although I like to use a very thin film of it on the tail of an AR bolt because it helps prevent carbon). I get it in the giant bottle and it lasts a long time. I use CLP or LSA on a rag for wiping down and cleaning the Hoppes off. I use TW25B oil and grease for lubing. A little goes a loooong way and that stuff is GREAT, if you haven't tried it you should. Won't ever go back to just CLP. Really keeps an action running smooth.

Break Free and Rem Oil to protect the outside metal and lube the slide rails. Ballistol in the bores to keep out the Teflon.

i use mobil 1

it is the absolute, undisputed, greatest firearm lubricant of all times.

whatever is the most important ingredient, or ingredients, it has 4 times more of it, and is the oil that nasa scientists use to lube the guns that astronauts use.

Weapon Shield. It replaces FP-10.

For grease on the rails, I still have some Ultima-Lube from Wilson Combat. Good stuff, but I haven't looked at the market in years to see if it's still considered top tier.

Gear oil, friction modifier, or any other automotive fluids don't bother me. Just the grease.

Huh, odd.

I myself am not particularly fond of DOT 3/4 brake fluid. It gets real warm and causes a minor burning sensation on my hands. Sucks, because I don't mind making new brake lines!

I work in a garage and get to try everything new that comes out for lubricants. When the oil sales guy comes around with new lubricants I ask for free samples to try in the garage( but its really for my guns and tons of different samples for freeeeeeeeee!!. I haven't bought snake oil oops I mean gun oil in years.

I thought Hoppes number 9 is just a powder and lead solvent, not a lubricant.

I use Rem Oil... I don't really like it though. Seems like it evaporates (it might just be me being anal, though) and leaves me worrying whether it's keeping my guns lubricated.

and when is the last time you have heard of astronauts having any gun problems?

Rem Oil. All you guys who like that Mobil 1, why not take the next step and use Amsoil? That's the best stuff there is. Aircraft lubricant, or so I understand.
