What Makes the Colt AR-15 Better?

I have seen it (I don't actually have the budget to DO it), and I believe troops in the sand box often shoot a lot.

My point is unless you've got someone else carrying ammo for you, a two or three hundred rounds in a session is a lot. 500 rounds is like 17 30 round mags and 1100 would be like 37.

I've heard people say two beta C-mags back to back full auto will melt the gas tube, but that is like 200 rounds in 20 seconds!

Overheating will break any gun, but its really pretty hard to do without minions bringing you more ammo.

Yeah, that 500 rounds in 10 minutes is quite a stretch and stupid. I have 8- 30 rounders, 5-20 rounders, and 1-10 round magazine, now that's 350 rounds and 6-20 rounders for my Mini-14, if that is not enough for the bad guys, I'm in trouble. With the cost of ammo these days, shooting like that is just plain stupid and I doubt very seriously that anyone would be able to get that many shots off in a confrontation anyways...

^^ It's just a test to see if the weapon works when pushed hard. And it does, just like Glock torture tests, AR-15 torture tests have proven that the AR-15 is indeed a very strong platform.

I like the M4, they are such a joy to fire. There are many clones to chose from and they all work. BOTACH has a Colt LE 6940 upper assembly for under $1K. Which is a good platform if your heart is set on a M4 with all the tactical whistles and bells. No FFL requirements are necessary. For me, building a new AR-15, I wouldn't. I'm up there with the FN SCAR "S"(special forces combat assult rifle) crowd. They are so EZ to break-down and operate with virtual flawlesslness. If you can afford $2K this is the rifle of today's civvy militia. SOCOM got the first batch. I like the H series the best. The L has too much muzzle rise in full auto mode.

Update On Original Post

Thanks for all of your thoughts and opinions on my original post. I decided to go with a Colt Match Target Competition HBAR II. I picked it up today.

After all of my research, only one thing was clear...there is no right answer to the 'which AR is better question'. In the end I was 'slightly' swayed by the resale value argument. Colts do seem to hold their value a bit better than some of the other brands. At least this seemed to be a consistent theme in what people were saying.

The rifle also has a very 'simple' set up, which after reevaluating my needs, I decided is right for me.

Thanks again for all of your input.

I mentioned this in another thread but my Colt 6920 has the best trigger I've handled in a semi auto rifle.

you most surely must not have handled a quality m1/m1a/m14, because their triggers are on par with turn bolts.
