One pistol? Yes, only one.

I find myself trying to simplify my life. This may be an anathma to most here, but I'm trying to narrow my collection to just four, 2 rifles, 1 centerfire and 1 rimfire, 1 shotgun and one handgun. This will give me more resources to become as proficient as possible. The .357 would be the obvious choice, but I much prefer pistols over revolvers. Not because they're better, I am just more comfortable with them.

Does anyone here use only one sidearm, for concealed carry, home defense and at the range? If so, what are you satisfied with? Or if you decided to narrow your choices down, what would it be?

I tend to prefer 9mm, in DA/SA, but I am open to any and all suggestions and thoughts. Thanks for your reply.

Q

I would pick my G23 If I could only keep 1 , its mid-sized and a proven track record

to become highly proficient, i would suggest a 22/45. shoot 10,000 rounds thru it at reasonable cost.
only then sell it n buy anything with a 1911 grip frame, that shoots expensive bullets.

Well, if it absolutely MUST be a semi-auto 9mm, I'll take my S&W 6906 or a Browning Hi-power.

I am partial to steel or alloy over polymer though.

If I had to have only one it would be an SVI in several different calibers.

Probably Glock 19 (or 23). Not the best for any given task, but very good for most all of them.

Q, you and I have identical strategies.

For years -- most of the time I've been a member here -- I've been a fan of the small kit. Two reasons for that. 1) I've had to travel a lot for professional necessity. I've lived in 26 places in 3 states in 12 cities during the last 5.5 years. No way I'm going to haul a safe full of guns around. 2) I have very limited range time, so I prefer to own few guns so as to max my time with each.

Currently, I own only 3: .30-30, .22 LR rifle, and my Ruger SR9c, that latter one being my answer to your question. (I'm considering adding either a shotgun -- or a .223 in bolt action this year; not sure yet.)

The reason I chose it is because 1) it fits my (smaller) hand better than any pistol or revolver I've ever owned. I was a revolver convert for over seven years, but recently switched back to pistols since I knew I only wanted one, and I like the capacity. 2) I shoot it very well -- ok, ok, well enough.

The bottom line for me -- that I learned here on THR -- is that a handgun needs to fit your hand, first, and that you have to be able to shoot well with it.

What ever that is for you, good luck finding it!

Probably a Glock 19. It just does most everything well and parts and accessories are everywhere. If striker fired is not your thing then I would say an HK P2000 or what I think of as the hammer fired Glock 19. Want an external safety HK USP Compact. Don't want plastic SIG P228/229.

Basically any of the above gives you lots of utility with lots of durability and long histories of reliability.

since it HAS to be double action, why not an EAA witness, one pistol and you can have just about any pistol caliber you want with a slide or barrel change

I didnt even have to stop and think; Browning Hi Power.
Thatd be my choice. But you know, YMMV yadda yadda yadda

9mm pocket pistol

9mm night stand gun

9mm truck gun

9mm carbine

I can do one caliber but I can't do just one gun.

In your shoes, I would choose what I consider to be the most versatile pistol on the market, and one I do own.

The Sig P320.

I find that not having spares complicates my life rather than simplifying it.

I like striker fired poly guns, and want them equipped with night sights. I currently have an HK VP9-LE w/ factory night sights & a Glock G17 Larry Vickers edition w/ the RTF2 frame & Wilson Combat sights. For me either would work.

Were I wanting a DA/SA I'd look at the new Wilson Combat Beretta, seems very nice.

I feel like I need more information. Would you ever need anything approaching the power of .357? Because, if so, an SP101.

Otherwise, there are many 9mm pistols out there that are excellent. I chose a CZ75, and love it, but I doubt any of the reliable brands (S&W, Glock, Ruger, Sig, CZ, Walther, Beretta, Springfield, etc.) would let you down. Just go to the range and try a few to see what suits your taste!

Not owning a 22 pistol is a crime in my book. :) If I had to reduce to a single pistol it would be a Buckmark. Leave the role of home defense to a proper home defense weapon, a rifle or a shotgun.

If you must have something for concealed carry, go with a quality 1911 and a 22 conversion, technically still only 1 pistol.
