One pistol? Yes, only one.

The only handgun I own now is my Glock 26, pretty much covers all the bases; concealed carry, home defense, and fun at the range :)

"Be content with such things as ye have...." Oh, I'm a tryin' to be...... :)

No...

I'd find it hard to have only one handgun.

#1. I like carrying a 22 when fishing.

#2. I don't like carrying a 9mm when hunting.

#3. I love shooting full size guns at the range.

#4. Sometimes I want to pocket carry.

#5. Sometimes I want a doublestack CC

#6. Sometimes I want a single stack CC

#7. Sometimes I want to CC a full size pistol.

#8. I love plinking with the 22's

#9. I use a full sized gun for the Night Stand.

Don't get me started on rifles...brush gun, open country, Turkey, plinking, varmint, Self defense...just to name a few.

Shotguns....Turkey, Ducks, Rabbit, Squirrel, Doves, Coyote, Grouse, Self Defense.

Ask me about fishing techniques and how many different types of rigs are needed.

Q, you and I have identical strategies.

For years -- most of the time I've been a member here -- I've been a fan of the small kit. Two reasons for that. 1) I've had to travel a lot for professional necessity. I've lived in 26 places in 3 states in 12 cities during the last 5.5 years. No way I'm going to haul a safe full of guns around. 2) I have very limited range time, so I prefer to own few guns so as to max my time with each.

Currently, I own only 3: .30-30, .22 LR rifle, and my Ruger SR9c, that latter one being my answer to your question. (I'm considering adding either a shotgun -- or a .223 in bolt action this year; not sure yet.)

The reason I chose it is because 1) it fits my (smaller) hand better than any pistol or revolver I've ever owned. I was a revolver convert for over seven years, but recently switched back to pistols since I knew I only wanted one, and I like the capacity. 2) I shoot it very well -- ok, ok, well enough.

The bottom line for me -- that I learned here on THR -- is that a handgun needs to fit your hand, first, and that you have to be able to shoot well with it.

What ever that is for you, good luck finding it!

Now that is a perspective I haven't thought of before. Due to me having only two jobs based in the same city over the last 28+ years.

Since this thread is about picking which handgun, and I had to pick what I already owned, I'd probably take the CZ75PCR.

However, as great as the PCR is for the home and range shooting, it is still a bit heavy for my type of concealed carry. My Glock 36 is lighter, yet has a capacity problem.

So, if I found myself in your shoes or the OP's, I'd seriously consider a polymer 9mm like you have chosen. I'd even look at the XD compact as I've had hands on time with those and like them very much.

My West German P220 would be what I'd keep if I were only going to keep 1, but I can't think of any logical reason to have to make that choice.
Different strokes, for different folks I guess

SIG P226

Great for the range, great for HD. New models have a rail for a weapons light.

Great accuracy, great reliability.

Many of the Sig pistols (and perhaps a few others) also sell a .22 conversion kit complete with barrel slide and magazine. That way you could have one pistol but shoot two cartridges

I'm not a fan of DA/SA handguns, but if limited to that choice I would keep/carry my Sig 225 9mm single stack. If buying a new gun, I would go with a Sig 226.

All that said, if I had to go with one handgun for ever, it would be my Ruger Speed Six with the short barrel. Or one of my Ruger .22 semiautos. Just glad I don't have to make that choice although I understand why the OP does.

One gun just isn't gonna cut it, even if I could sell off all mine and get to this mythical one as soon as I did I'd be looking for another.

For me, if I had to/wanted to consolidate in this manner, I'd stick with my Wilson Combat CQB Compact .45. Small enough to carry easily, plenty of punch from the .45 ACP round, maintenance parts are readily available, ammo is relatively available in my neck of the woods, and I've got more trigger time on it than anything else in my collection. It also happens to be completely reliable and more accurate that I'm capable of capitalizing on.

I've kept the same strategy your leaning towards. 1 of each type, but I know how to use each one very well. I have had only one pistol, a glock 30 since 1998. Its my CC and sits on the nightstand when I go to bed.

As you can tell from the numerous responses, they all heva their preferences. You may have to shoot a dozen of them to decide what you really like. It took me many years and maybe a dozen guns to realize that I was most comfortable shooting the Glock 17.

It'd have to have a .22 Conv. Kit available for it in .45 ACP .

which means my full size 1911.

but if you must
9mm Luger DA/SA - CZ 75B w/.22 Conversion kit.

I enjoy the CZ 75B and shoot it often.

I second what BPHunter said. Before I settled on my glock 30, I rented \every 45 I could from the local store and took everyone up on the offer to try their personal weapons. I fired them all, sig, Remington, ruger, etc. When I fired the glock it just fit. To me its a must to shoot a weapon before I buy it.

I would hardly call FOUR firearms a collection, but if I had to choose just ONE handgun from my current inventory I would choose my SR9. It has been very reliable(with decent ammo), more accurate than I am, feels good in my hand, and it is slim enough to CC if I had to.

Thankfully I am not going to try to narrow down my collection to 4.

Several reasons I'm asking about "one", besides what I listed to start this post. Primary being, (again, just for me) I prefer to have one manual of arms, one feel, etc. for a pistol in particular as it may at some point be called on for SD. In that case, I want my actions to be "instinctive", not have to think, do I have a SA with a safety or a DA... or whatever. I do, however, really like the idea of being able to have a conversion kit to go to .22.

If I wanted a DA/SA 9mm I'd look real hard at the PX4 storm. My 1 handgun would have to be two, LCP for EDC .45Blackhawk convertible for everything else.

HK45C.
Small enough to conceal, large enough to shoot well, 100% reliable, plus it's a 45. I like DA/SA with a manual safety in case I want to slip it in my waistband without a holster.
