Well, since I'm not capable of saving any money, I suppose I'll have to order gun from SOG once I get my tax refund check. The three pistols they're currently offering that I'm interested in are:

FEG PA-63
Bulgarian Makarov
CZ52

I know that the vast majority of you are going to root for the Makarov, but I have fired a friend's PA-63 before, and I think it's a fine pistol. So basically, sell me on the Mak's merits above and beyond those of the PA-63. Also, if I were to buy the CZ52 (basically just out of curiosity), how available is the 7.62x25 ammo? I've never looked for it around here, so I don't have any idea.

Decisions, decisions... :D

Thanks for your input!

Well, not knowing the amount of your tax return & guessing that buying ALL 3 isn't an option, I say, buy the MAK.

Well I suppose that I could buy all three, but being a poor college student, I should probably just wait and buy one now. I'll probably wind up going with the Mak, even though I'll wind up paying in the ballpark of $175 for it since the FFL near my house charges $20 for the transfer, plus tax, plus 10% of the cost of the gun. :cuss:

Oh well, I'll live.

I'd say get the Mak. John's PA-63 is nice, but the Mak probably won't have the 34lb double action trigger pull that his gun does.

He actually thought it was a single action gun when he first bought it.

Tom,

Hmm, interesting. I don't seem to recal John's FEG having that stiff of a trigger. Maybe it just seemed light when compared to my brute strength...;)

I need to find someone around home that'll do cheap FFL transfers. I'm tired of supporting Kames...

+10% of the cost? At least that is still less than one place here, they charge $50 flat! :what:

The lowest cost was a place who charged $15 and no tax or anything like that.

I vote for the Makarov, I saw plenty of PA-63s floating around at the recent show and only 2 Maks. And I still haven't shot mine yet, but I keep on pawing it.

And I really didn't like the feel of the CZ-52, though I did find a local one for $129... so I might like it more. But it feels like a dumb bell. There was a really nice modified one in one of those many magazines, but putting $200 into a $100 gun doesn't make sense to me.

$20 +10% :what: That's robbery!! I have a dealer 3 blocks from my house that charges $30 or 15% which ever is greater. I drive 10 miles past his shop to go to a place that charges $20 flat.

I am planning on a cheesy safe and 2 handguns a Savage striker in 243 and anohter Glock or an AR in place of the Glock. I don't want the stridker but it is necessity.

I'd opt for the Mak.

I plan on buying a .45 for my 1 year remote tour completion gift to myself.

And, I will be getting a rather nice state tax return back, round a thou, so I might be shopping for another handgun as well.
Maybe a .454 or something other than a carry piece.

Then again, I do need another rifle.

For that kind of money, I'd consider getting the Kel Tec P11. 9mm can be bought at your local Wal-mart. 9 x 18 mm has to be ordered via mail or online, and you also have to pay shipping. Gun shows and gun stores are also a bit higher priced, with parking and door fees to pay for, too.

If you will only buy the guns listed, I'd get the Makarov.

$20 for the transfer, plus 10% plus tax

Clear he's screwing you big time with combining the first two, If your not in SOG's state, he's flat out stealing from you with the third.

You make out the money order, he sends it with FFL, you owe him NOTHING tax wise.

Well unfortunately I am in SOG's state, although I'm about 4 or 5 hours away from them when I'm at home. I know the guy is screwing me over, so I'm gonna look into a couple other FFL holders that are a bit farther away, but they'd save me money, so the drive is well worth it!

I'll pretty sure I'll be going with the Makarov after all. Thanks for your input, everyone!
