What replica would YOU choose?

I have one of those little babys, and it looks just as good today as it did five years ago. It is polished steel. Polishing closes the pores in the steel and inhibits rusting. I've seen brand new "stainless steel" utensils that started rusting after a few months, whereas I've seen swords (and guns) of polished steel that still looked great after 200 years. Get the gun you want and. providing you take care of it, it will still be looking good after you're long gone.

Hey you know maybe scrat can put a walker down his pants and nobody would notice the difference. Then again maybe they all would point and stair.

So, the wheels have been turning today. I was browsing Dixie Gun Works' site to see if they had a neat snubby with a thunderer grip on it (why France and not us?). Of course, there's nothing there. Then, I browse through the gun parts for a 51 navy and find this... review - http://www.dixiegunworks.com/product_reviews_info.php?products_id=1052&reviews_id=1185 . What say I bought this barrel and whacked it to 3". I'd have a smith do it so it'd get cut square and crowned proper, probably cost me a bit, eh? Barrel is like 75 bucks, add probably 50 for the work. But, then, I'd have my concealment barrel and the longer barrel mix and match, eh?

Sure, as long as you get a loading stand to load it (you won't have a working loading lever left).

Well, the idea is something like that neat snubby in the picture from France. :D Loosing the loading lever is the compromise, of course. I'll still have my other barrel, though, for normal shooting at the range.

Actually, I've been thinking about ways to make that cut straight myself and I can crown it with a marble and some emory cloth and some time in front of the TV. :D If it's not QUITE square, it ain't a target barrel, after all. I can even drill it for a front sight, use a chunk of brazing rod. Used brazing rod on my .31 cause it was shooting so high. Works pretty well.

I'll get the gun first, worry about the barrel later. No big rush on that.

Well, actually, my idea will be what StrawHat did with his Navy, only that I will have the 5 1/2" barrel as an option to the shorty.

Yeah, that 1860 snub with the thunderer grip is just plain perfect! I don't know that it's available in the US, have checked around the net, anyway. If I could find THAT, my search would be over!

MCgunner,

That one in the picture is what's left of an 1860.

I have yet to cut my little guns.

Since that photo it has received a set of smooth stag grips and a front sight.

It shoot well and I am filing and drifting the sight so it will hit point of aim.

I am with you Mac, no one will ever convince me about using black powder for conceal carry. There really are better options even at the same price point.

the snubby is kind of cool for a novelty anyway.
