Marlin 39A

My favorite to take out and shoot ? Easy....my Marlin 39A lever action. She's of 1967 vintage and seems to only get better with age. I LOVE this rifle!!!

Well, I have an All Weather 77/22 in .22 WMR that I've fallen in love with and like to shoot it a lot. I also like to shoot my 77/22 in .22 LR as well as the Remington 512. Centerfires that get more action than the others are the Savage 110 in .22-250 and the older tang safety 77RL in .270. I went through a phase with the 6.5 x 55 out of the 1942 vintage Husqvarna M38, but it has been fairly quiet recently. I think that may need to change....

Bolt here, too. 1943 Longbranch Enfield No4 Mk1* FTR, mismatched bolt, #1 bolt head, one handload gets 1' at 100 yards.

The older I get, the more I realize the spray and pray days of my youth with Mini 14s and UZIs are over and done with,:what: , and accurate shooting is more fun and challenging.

.22LR and .50

The two I shoot most are a bolt action Marlin in .22 rimfire and a single shot .50 cal. Of course, it has to be a single shot. Every loading cycle involves pouring powder down 'er and ramming a patched ball down on top of that. So yeah, I've got a .50 cal, but not one of the "cool" ones. :D

Lately, my favorite is also my newest, a Winchester M-70 featherweight in 25WSSM. Expensive to shoot, but powerful, accurate and mild at the shoulder. However it's usually one of the loudest guns at the range on average...

7.62x54r is the caliber I shoot most, from my Finnish M39.
Tied first place in a high-power match the other day with surplus Hungarian heavy ball, vs. a Mauser shooting handloads. :)

I also enjoy 7.5x55 out of my K-31, and 8mm out of my dad's VZ24/47 and Turk Mausers.

I guess I'm just a full-size rifle round kind of guy. :D

Tallyman

Savage-Anchutz Model 141 .22LR
Rossi M92 SRC 357 Mag
Rossi M92 SRC 45 Colt
Marlin 1894CL Classic 32-20
Remington M700BDL-V .308 Win (with reduced loads 175Gr Lead Bullets)
FEG Hungarian MAK-90 7.63x39mm

Light to sporter weight rifles in the "standard" 6mm/.25 class. They have good practical range potential, can be employed for most any practical shooting very effectively - and are very pleasant to shoot.

.22 rimfires are of course extremely cheap and can often be used for extensive practice where not practical for most centerfires.

I shoot probably 3000 rounds of .223 a month out of my DPMS. But if I had my way, .308 would be cheaper and I'd shoot it all day offhand.

But with practicality aside. My favorite rifle of all time is the M1 Garand and my favorite cartridge is the .30-06. They are both a symbol of pure American ingenuity, a$$-kickery, and all around shooting goodness. Both have a long history, and yet they both perform well to this day.

In order:
1.) Mosin Nagant M44 -- gotta have the bayonet, and I love the KA-FARGING-BLAM, and three feet of muzzle flash that causes the ground to shake, the grass to catch on fire and the guys next to me pee their pants.

2.) AR-15, very accurate, easy to shoot, just an all-round nice gun

3.) No4 Mk1* Lee Enfield -- it's hard not to do "mad minutes" with this thing! Very accurate, very fast cycling, heavy, and still has plenty of bark.

4.) AKM -- WASR AK-47, light (lighter than an AR), handy, good bark, good bite, and accurate (I handload).

I like to shoot the following rifles,in the following calibres:

AK-103 in 7.62

Lee Enfield N04 in .303

Steyr Scout,in .308

Steyr SSG69 in .243 and in .308.

Sabre Defence Industries,M16/A2 M4A1 Carbine,in .223

Ruger 10/22,in .22LR

Marlin 1894C,in .357 and .38 special.

I always take .22LR to the range, and push it through a Remington 40x or Winchester 52D (both from CMP)

Then I take something with more oomph, most often a Rock River AR in .223, or a M1 Garand in 30-06, or '03 Springfield.

I also like the 6.5x55SE round, shooting with the Swede Mauser model 96.

Regards.

The Steven's Favorite gets the most use by far. It's a zen like experience shooting 100 yards with buckhorn sights.:D

I have neighbors that get nervous if I shoot anything with powder. I can legally, but I really don't want to push the issue. So I love my Beeman Air Rifle, 5mm with a scope. Great range & hitting power for starlings, sparrows, chippies, & stuff. Great to practice control with also. Excellant adjustable trigger too.

Cheap too!
