I think it's safe to say that a lot of us are having to use what we can find for rimfire practice. There just isn't a lot to choose from.

The only .22 LR I've bought in the last 6 months or so was a 225 round Remington 36 grain HP golden bullet bulk pack. I was very impressed with them during the first magazine full out of my 10/22 - consistent and kind of hot, working the action like it was Garand. Then in the second magazine I noticed the "pop... pop... BANG.. pop... BANG" of cheap ammo.
That was fine though... as long as they go off and land somewhere on the pop can, that's good enough for what I bought them for.
I also had a few boxes of Thunderbolts around. They're more of a truncated nose, which was strange because I thought Thunderbolts were more of an LRN shape. Also, the lube has turned to a white dusty powder. There is something about them that ties my one 10/22 magazine up - bullet shape or OAL or something. But they chamber and feed from the others so I am using them up. Since the lube looks questionable, I'm pulling a boresnake through every 20 rounds or so.

What are you guys finding and shooting these days?

CCI standard velocity. Good stuff. I bought 10K rounds in July to use at camp and I am shooting up the leftovers this fall.

I usually fire CCI. Now, I am firing "Bob's Discount 22lr" (just kidding). I am almost out of 22lr. I am at about 2,000 rounds. I bought a box of Winchester M-22 and it cycled out of my Sig Mosquito and P226.

I'm shooting up the last of the 25K I got about last Thanksgiving by plain dumb luck. Getting low enough to cut my ration per outing in half :(

Still shooting Federal Auto-Match and Federal Gold Match mostly with some CCI SV thrown in there occasionally.

I've got more 22LR now than I had a year ago and I shoot it every week.

I have about 12000 rounds and shoot about 400 rounds per week. The whole 22LR shortage is really a bit overblown. Can I go to one of the local Academys and pick up a bulk pack of 22LR? No. But what I can do is call the local Academy stores in the morning after they open and ask them what they have in stock. When they say they have 22, I go and pick up a couple boxes.

Yes, a bit of a pain but worth it.

Federal 550 bulk is my all time favorite for plinking and hunting too. It always goes bang and is pretty accurate out of my rifles that I shoot.

I think it depends on location. It took a LONG time for .22 to come back in stock locally. Even now, I'm not a buyer. I'm not desperate enough to pay $44 for a brick of .22. I'll pick up a little at Walmart if I'm there when it's in though.

When I run out of the stuff I'm using up now, I'll switch back to the Super Colibris I got from Midway last month out of the old Glenfield Marlin.

I'm still shooting the Remington Golden Bullet 22 I bought last year. Last time I looked I still had about 1900 rounds left.

I'm also shooting 17 Mach2. I'm starting to get low on that. Can't find any otherwise.

Lots of Remington thunderbolts, mini mag and auto match lately with some Winchester thrown in for good measure.
Things started loosening up about 2 months ago but pickings are still slim. Seems lately that academy's shipments have been cut by 1/3 and some real oddball stuff is on the shelf if its available at all.
This week it's Remington vipers and CCI longs... Go figure.

Most of my plinkers I shoot CCI, Minimags and SV, for my target guns I still shoot Eley Match Extra. I haven't bought any this year but still have several thousand rounds of each.

whatever I have on hand , and witch gun I'm shooting , right now I have rem thunder bolts (3/4 brick) 2 or 3 boxes of CCI mini mags, a brick of American Eagle (fed) , a bulk pack of fed plated HP a bulk pack of rem gold HP, 1/2 brick of win wildcat , some Eley primed Rem, and a 1/2 a brick of vintage fed "white and blue box with gold stripe" from the late "70's" I even have a few boxes of old Sears "Ted Willams" on hand, when I run low on anything ,I stop shooting it that way I'm never out , anyone remember the old "QUIK-SHOK" in the red box from before CCI started making them ? .. yep got 6 boxes of them too ,

Federal Auto Match.

I got a lot of CCI MM's before this hit, but I was in the process of replacing my Federal with the CCI, so I don't want to shoot the CCI. Only shot it to do some accuracy tests.

I've still not seen one single brick of .22LR in a store at a normal price.

Been lucky enough to pick up 4k rounds of Winchester M22 at local WalMarts the last few months. Picked up about 2k of Federal Automatch there too, and the odd bulkpack or three of whatever.

Note- I have never hung around with the early morning crowd trying to get all they can...I just walk into into WalMart I'm near and check, at any time of the day. Probably go in 4 or 5 different ones a week. I'm within lunch hour range of 4.

Most of the time I get nothing but then other times- Bingo!

Oh yeah- scored plenty of 9 and .45 that way too. Even grabbed 300 rounds of .223 this week at about 40 cents a round- 100 packs of Federal. Would have bought all 8 they had but there is that pesky 3 box limit...

Not trying to rub it in, but I've done ok with WalMart and ammo.

I generally use Federal Champion/Lightning 510's for general shooting. For my rifles I usually use CCI Standard Velocity (SV), the 510's, PMC Moderators in my TC Lynx, or sometimes regular CCI HV. The Remington's get shot too. I just have a lot more of the Federal 510's. Of those, the CCI SV shoots more consistantly in the rifles I shoot except for the Lynx.

Right now I have a bit of everything on hand. Winchester bulk, Federal bulk, CCI Blazer in boxes, a couple of types of Remington, etc. As long as it goes bang I'm not picky.

I've been lucky and haven't had many of the QC issues that others have reported. Very few duds and accuracy has been at least acceptable for plinking. I do have a few particularly accurate batches (in my guns) that I try to save for small game hunting, though.

Most of my stash was purchased 10 or more years ago. Everything from plinking ammo to target ammo that cost $70 to $120 a brick way back then. Doubtful I'll ever shoot it all up.

eley match in our rifles, sk pistol match special in my bullseye pistol, fed automatch (when I can find it) for plinking.
