Remington rimfire ammunition...

I've gotten to shooting CCI Standard Velocity almost exclusively from my CZ 452. *shrug*

I didn't quite have the horror stories with Thunderbolt (I'd usually have one total dud in three boxes) that some of you guys are reporting, but the accuracy just wasn't there.

I buy the Remie golden bullets but not Thunderbolts. Have not in years. No big problems with the Golden Bullets. I like the Federal stuff the best of the less expensive brands. I have so many 22 shells, that I doubt I'll need to buy any more unless I'm shooting the target grade stuff.

I've never shot Thunderbolts, but the general concensus is that they're cheap crap. Beyond that, most of the other cheap bulk ammo is OK. As most of you already know, most semiauto .22's can be a bit finicky with ammo. When I shoot .22's, I'm doing it for cheap practice, to I go for cheap bulk, and accept the occasional dud. I've got a Woodsman that works great with Wallyworld's bulk Federals, but jams constantly with Remington Goldens. My Marvel conversion for my .45 works pretty well with Remington Goldens, but won't feed Federals. If I try something that won't work in either one, I use 'em in my old Stevens #10, where I just push 'em in with my thumb anyway.

I normally shoot CCI with my Ruger 10/22, but I found a pretty good deal
on 5 bricks of Remington Yellow Jacket Hyper Velocity hollow points. Haven't used them yet. Anybody have experiences (good or bad) with those?

The promo Thunderbolts have a reputation for having some issues with quality, ergo the $7.99/500 price tag. With Thunderbolts, and most other rimfire misfires, spinning it around will cause it to go off when fired, if the firing pin hits a section of the primer that contains priming compound.

I shoot Remington Target, and don't have any issues.

I quit using Remington .22s (and most of their centerfire stuff as well) some years ago. The .22s were totally useless---besides all the misfires, the accuracy was incredibly poor besides. Fro decent .22 ammo I go with:

Winchester T-22s
Federal "Gold Lable" Classic
and Wolf match Target.

Yeah, they're more expensive, but we're still talking pennies per box. (well, the Wolf stuff has doubled in price since I bought my last brick, but its STILL worth it, as its the most accurate stuff in my guns.)

thunderbolts are crap

However the bulk pack golden bullet remingtons are what my marlin likes hte best, get even better groups out of it and less dubs then federal with my guns.

Sure it looks like hell and hte bullets spin in the casses, but it works great in my guns lol

Winchester Wildcats are the cat's meow in semi-autos.

X-pert 22s are reliable too, in a bolt action. The big hollow point really makes a smack when you headshot a squirrel.

My go to squirrel ammo is now Federal Gold Medal though. It shoots more accurately in my CZ.

Last summer I bought some of the Remcrap at WM, I've always been more of a CCI or Win fan for .22LR.

Grabbed my Marlin 39A and headed to the range. Loaded the tube put my muffs on took aim and fired, no noise, no recoil.

I'm WTH, did I have a squib, I lever the action and a spend case comes out, I check the bore and it's clear. So I fire another, same thing. So I remove my muffs and fire.

Snap, I've heard louder cap guns.:(

No recoil no noise = no fun for Brent at the range.

NO more shooting with Remcrap at the range if I have to check for squibs out of that rifle. At least my HS HD Military likes it.

Ditto on the Thunderbolt... but that's why you get it for $7.99 a brick.

I use the Remington Golden HP's all the time, no problems. Good thing too, it's the ONLY round that my Walther P-22 seems to like.

Problem is cost... Golden's run $9.99/500 when on clearance!
I guess I gotta dig a little deeper for the quality huh?

It's been appallingly bad stuff for decades.

I've been shooting CCI standard velocity about a decade now. I doubt I get a failure to fire in 5,000 rounds.
+1. A couple of friends of mine bought a case of Remington .22lr Std Vel. They got AT LEAST 10% misfires in their S&W Model 41s. They sent that garbage back for a refund.

When I see somebody in our local bullseye pistol league getting a lot of misfires, the first thing I check is whether they're shooting Remington. If they are, I tell them to switch to CCI. The problem invariably goes away.

I agree with the general thunderbolt concensus. I bought two bricks a couple years ago. One is still at the back of my ammo cabinet and will probably still be there when my kids clean it out after I croak!:cuss:

I bought some "Thunderbolts" quite a few years back [sometimeoin the early-to-mid-90's] when Remington sold them in the little plastic tub called "A Bucket of Bullets".

Rather poor excuse for ammo, but I still have the Bullet Buckets. I dump whatever ammo I am going to use into the bucket for the range trip.

Remington bulk ammo (we are referring to the $9.99 for 500 Walmart type I believe) is pure junk. You get what you pay for. It misfires, it's dirty, and it smells like cancer when you shoot it. I switched to CCI stingers.

Bought the Little Bro a Remington 597 for Christmas - also bought a brick of Remington Golden Bullets (seemed appropriate)... what crap.

Would get 1-4 misfires per magazine, then switched to the revolver - same deal. Accuracy was pretty dismal too, compared to the bit of Federal and CCI I brought.

Had one round that we tried six times switching back and forth between guns - wouldn't fire.

Waste of my $11...
