Anyone use body armor as part of their "investigate a noise" kit?

It seems most people I talk to focus on the offense and not so much on the defense.

They seem to sell for about 900 bucks, that doesnt seem too bad at all.

Thoughts?

S&M?

Seriously, Unless you are wearing it 24/7/365, you might not have time to put it on!

As it is you should be concentrating on whether you need to shoot the BG or NOT!

I don't think I would want to stand there half-dressed with the thing and telling the BG to "wait" for me!

heh, well that may be the case, on the other hand you might just have time. I mean best to have the tools and not use them right?

If we are going to go by theories, I can definatly dream up a scenario where someone is bashing in my door / window, my wife is calling the police and I might just have time to get into a protective vest.

but thats just a theory after all :)

I just wonder if we dont tend to go all out towards multiple guns, because they are cooler and sexier, and neglect something that may just stop the return fire?

In africa they were highly prized and valued, I recently read that in Argentina and eastern europe they are a valued item as well.

I figure I would procure one BEFORE the country decends to the level of those countries. :)

I have an interceptor with trauma plates. I leave it hanging in the closet and it's where I point my guns when clearing or loading them. I can't imaging having time to put it on when I believe there is someone in my house who shouldn't be there.

There are times (mostly when I'm involved in training) when it is in my vehicle. I can IMAGINE circumstances where I would put it on for defensive use, but the odds are so remote as to be negligible. Basically if I had a Columbine/Trolley Square type shooting going on when I would investigate with my rifle. The main problem is, if I have my body armor with me because I am involved in training, it means I am constantly going on and off military posts and I'm not allowed to have my sidearm or my truck gun in the vehicle. The best thing I could do with the body armor at that point is offer to let a cop take it.

You've got that right!
Maybe the idea is not so far-fetched AFTER ALL!

I'm sorry to you for kidding about it!

I have some, building a roll out vest very slowly, just because. Probably won't be able to get to it in time, butthe chance exists, especially if civil unrest ensues. Nice to have.
