I currently have an XD9 Service, XD9SC & M&P40C. I sold my fullsize M&P to get the compact for carry.

I would be looking for a semi-auto 9mm or .40 S&W handgun. Don't need anything for competition. I"m thinking a Sig or Beretta of some sort, but unsure. I'd say that I would not want to spend over $700 for it (New or used). USPs are out b/c they just don't feel right in my hands. I have shot them.

I have also been kicking around the idea of selling the XD9 Service to buy another fullsize pistol, but I am still on the fence.

I have owned a G19 and, while it was good to me, I don't think Glocks do anything for me. However, the hi-cap mag option is nice.

You've got the "cutting edge" of technology already, so why don't you look at the CZ or the Browning Hi-Power before you choose. You may find that there is some merit in the "old designs".

If money is a concern, give the Ruger P95 9mm a look see. You can get new ones for$300, and it's a super reliable pistol.

Full size 9mm

Some old school 9s in full size are the best buys out there.

For example Top Gun in Ohio just posted this week that he has gotten in more Swiss used Sig P228s and is in the procces of grading them . the last batch was all under $500.00 for the best condition.

Another example is the great 3rd generation Smiths. Three weeks ago I purchased a Model 5906 with 3 mags and box for $340.00 Not a scratch on it.

These are still the best of full size 9s and the price is right.

Now that I think of it, I'd like to have something with a threaded barrel so I can add a supressor later on.

I would buy an all metal pistol like a SIG P229, P226, CZ 75B, 75D PCR or a Beretta 92fs, it looks like you have had enough experience with tupperware pistols. I really like my Glock G34, use it for USPSA and IDPA matches, but if I could only own one 9mm, it would be a tie between the SIG P226 and CZ PCR. Everone should own a SIG, CZ, Glock, and a Model 1911. If you go polyframe again, H&K, FN, Glock or perhaps a CZ SP 01 Phantom. Try the CZ or FN and you will retire the XD.

Start a project. Get a standard mil-spec 1911 and go from there. Good additions include a set of Novaks, high rise beaver tail, and an ambi. thumb safety. A step further would involve a beveled mag well, front and back strap checkering, and polishing the feed ramp. The list is almost endless, but it is exciting to watch a stock 1911 transform into a work of art. I started with a springfield GI.
