Here's my situation. I've got an Ithaca/SKB model 600 12 gauge over/under shotgun that I use for trap/skeet. Nothing fancy but it's been doing the job for a while. When I bought it the forearm had been repaired and it's help up as long as I've had it. Until recently that is, my forearm has split and can not be repaired. I've looked around and it's not a quick/simple/cheap replacement part. There is also a delay on the firing of the upper barrel which my gunsmith says is dirt, which I would fix if I can get the forearm issue taken care of for a reasonably price. The gun otherwise is in good shape for a gun that's probably 20-30 years old. I've got a few feelers out and waiting to hear back. Now my wife mentioned that instead of fixing it I should sell it and buy a new one. Which has got me thinking.......... Whats the general consensus of the forum.......

I've contacted them and it's a possible option but I'm going to have a hard sell to spend $200-300 on a new replacement stock for a gun that I paid $500 for. Especially when she's willing to let me get a new one (providing I sell this one as is).

can we see a picture of it? I find it hard to believe that theirs no way to fix/make a new forearm out of something else? I also might be interested in it if you don't want to fix it.

There are some very talented stock repair people out there - try an internet search. If you have all the wood, they can put it back together.

I really liked some of the Ithaca/SKB shotguns, especially the O/Us in 20 ga and the SxSs (especailly the 12s). Great field guns - light and handled beautifully.

Unfortunaltey, I had the wood crack on several of my guns (a couple of butt stocks and a fore end) - it must be their weak point. I eventually sold off or traded all of mine because of these repeated problems.

Still have a couple of pieces of wood laying around, sorry, no 12 ga O/U fore ends.

Of course, it your are just looking for an excuse to get a new gun, sell the 600 as is and go for it. Tell the gunsmith you will take the $175 if he gives you a good deal on another gun in his shop (if he has something you want).

Today I made an unplanned stop at Kings Shooter supply in King of Prussia and I happened to notice a CZ Canvasback 12 gauge on their rack. The price was right so it came home with me. I will post some real pic's once my new camera shows up on Tuesday. It's used, but appears to be in almost new condition with the original box and all the chokes. Can't wait to try it out on the range. So for now it's not as pressing to get my SKB back up and running. I've got a few leads and I'm waiting to hear back from my gunsmith, hopefully one of them will provide me with an economically appealing solution.
