I got bad news today concerning the 4th Inf Div move to Fort Carson. The division will return to Fort Hood, and after deploying again to Iraq will they move to Fort Carson (2 to 21/2 years from now). I had the opportunity to shoot that noisy port M16 thing, you have a little bulletproof window to look out of and hits are not easy. The reflag idea is done frequently but certain personnel will be dragged screaming out of beautiful colorado spring to drab killeen tx

A lot of the unit relocations are being slowed because the receiving posts and/or surrounding communities aren't ready to handle them yet.

I know 1AD will be staying in Germany an extra year or two because Ft Bliss/El Paso aren't ready for 50,000 troops and family members.

You guys do me a favor and PM me if you have any maintenance problems with the M2 or the M3 Bradley, I will then direct you to the U.S. Army home page and we will discuss it. I taught maintenance for a couple of years at Aberdeen Proving Ground, Md. Engines, Transmissions, Electrical troubleshooting. I am a hull guy so I don't know the ISU or the turret too well. I loved teaching then and Love teaching now, only now I don't teach the Bradley Fighting Vehicle any longer.

I was 11M from Sept. of 95 to March of 99. I went to Vilseck, Germany right of basic. 2/2 Infantry and then went to Fort Carson, 1/8 Infantry for my last year. Carson was beautiful. We still had the M231s when I was in but they never left the arms room.

Next time you talk to your son, ask him what makes the grass grow. Is he in the House of Pain? Echo, 2/58 myself.

Alright, this thread really brought back a funny memory! I spent some time in a Divisional Cav Squadron in Germany, back when there was still an East German Border to be patrolled. My troop had exactly one M231 that I ever saw.
Our Master Gunner taped the wire stock from an M3 Grease Gun on it, hung an AN/PVS-4 on top, an somehow rigged a sling to it. He took that "thing" out on the Grenze on patrol one day. You shoulda' seen the GAKs (East German Border Guards) go nuts with the cameras. They thought they were seeing the new U.S. super assault weapon!

Jeff if your son needs anything let me know I am not far away. My bro will be rotating back in Feb.

Regards,

James
