Probably the same ones that run the elections are issuing the licenses. DUH!!!!!!!!!!

With all the rush on everything right now, they're running a bit behind. I got in just before they got blasted, but I was right at my 90 days.

Heard they're somewhere around 120 right now. Calling and asking wouldn't hurt.

We've been going through the same deal in Texas: A really large surge in the number of applications.

Tied to this, as an illustration of the increase in CHLs and such is the increase in the numbers of students in training schools. Some schools are booked into 2010, where in the past the bookings were at most some six months ahead.

Not to get too far off topic but can you walk into an FL sheriff's station and get fingerprinted or do you have to schedule an appointment? (I'll be in Orlando, FL in mid January and would like to swing by for applying for a FL CCL. Yes, I've already tried contacting the local sheriff in Orange County.)

In Jax you can walk right in w/ no appt.

I have called the Licensing board and they have two levels of status:

1) Not here. Meaning they never got it or have processed it and sent it out.

or

2) Being processed.

It used to take up to 90 days. I have heard online that its a little longer now due to the increased number of applications.

If you are within Florida, or near Florida, you can go to any county sheriffs office to do electronic fingerprinting. That'll cut 4 to 6 weeks off the processing time.

In Maryland, fingerprinting is at the state trooper barracks, one half-day per week per barracks, first-come first-serve. Fingerprinting is not done by the local sherrif. And the line forms an hour early. It is done by volunteers so getting there on time is too late.
