It all started off with the mention of a Single Six I'd been looking at and Mom told me to get it and consider it my Father's Day present!
Cool eh? Ah, she's a Keeper allright!
Well the dilemmia is that I already have one and I don't know if I wouldn't like the new Ruger SR 22 Pistol better OR maybe even another Centerfire since ammo costs just about the same!
Yea current prices in my area are $20 for a 100 ct CCI box of rimfires over the counter. and the cheaper .38 specials go for .22 a box of 50 but you are talking a self defense caliber gun as opposed to a plinker.
Used guns are pretty available in my area and since the origonal SS that started this was used , I am obviouslly not opposed to buying used!
ell I guess I'll have to look over everything though I doubt I'll find another $300 Nickled Chief's Special like I did about 6 mo ago! Deals like that are rare.
It's too bad that the ammo prices have gotten so crazy because I really like the .22 rimfire but why pay so much for so little power and preformance? It sickens me that I'll never feel OK just spraying a magazine out of my Nylon 66 again...

As for ammo costs, in time they will come down. This PANIC is nationwide and driven by hoarders right now. :D

I would think about something in 9MM. Perhaps a Glock 17/19 which I consider a baseline, cornerstone auto pistol that should be in every collection.

Or, something in 1911. I also think a couple of good (quality) 1911s in .45ACP should be included in a proper handgun collection. Nothing crisper or smoother than shooting a tuned .45ACP 1911. Incredible triggers.

Those two are my suggestions.

My advise would be to join the Glock Shooting Sports Foundation for $30. They will give you a coupon to buy any new Glock at cost with 3 hi-cap mags. I would suggest a Glock 23 or 19 which will cost you $399 plus tax. If you go to Lone Wolf you can get a convertion barrel for the .40 to convert it to 9mm for $110 then you can shoot both. Regards

Reloading equipment is what you need to purchase if ammo cost is an issue.

While it wont particularly help for your complaint on 22lr. The prices will comeback down eventually when people stop buying it all, and it sits on the shelves.

The OP mentions two separate revolvers in his OP in calibers not offered by Glock and people still mention it...

I would look for a decent used S&W K frame or a Ruger Six series if a revolver is the route you wanted to go. That or else maybe a semi-auto in a 9mm. Ammo availability and prices will eventually get back to normal, hopefully soon.
