Some Savage rifles had aluminum rings that were easy to over torque and even if ONE screw starts to loosen up or strip on a mount it can be confusing as all get-out.

Yep, when pulling off old stuff 1 ring allen screw was loose, once off tried to snug it up and was stripped out in lower ring half.

Just plain missed it the first time I checked it over.

Update

This is the rifle now:

Northland Shooters supply CBI 26" S/S varmint with N.S.S. HD lug.
N.S.S. barrel and action wrench.
Rifle Basix SAV-1 was all ready on.
B&C Medalist stock.
Soon will have Bushnell Elite TAC...as soon as brown truck arrives.

Just put it all together with help from Jim Briggs on the phone. Great guy to deal with. Walked me thru barrel and headspacing, took 20 minutes or so.

His tools are 1st class if you want to go the action wrench route.
Action wrench is recessed at bottom to fit in vise, lug area is recessed also for fitup check.
B-wrench fit like a glove.

Will breakin in a few days.
