What version of 700 is this?

Hi! I just baught this gun second hand, and it left me wonder what type of Remington 700 it was? IT has a detachable magazine. It only says "Model 700 LH", not adl, bdl, cdl or other.

I would call Remington, give them the serial number and they should be able tell you everything about the the rifle and year it was made.

In the dim recesses of my memory I seem to remember a conversion to detachable box magazines was available for 700s also 10 round extended magazines.

The "LH" stamped after "Model 700" stands for Left Hand. Your particular rifle is a BDL. IIRC, aftermarket conversion kits were (and still are) available to make use of a removable magazine. I suspect that was done to the rifle in question.

I think it's factory due to the stock in-letting at the magwell.

Normally, the relief cut for the action & barrel, in this case I was relief in the stock for the magazine to be easily removed.

You purchased a 700 LH (left hand) DM (detachable magazine) rifle of which has the black fore end tip found on BDL rifles.

This action DOES NOT have feed rails to feed from an internal magazine box(ADL/BDL) so it will ALWAYS require a magazine to function by design.

Remington M-700 DM's (Detachable Magazine) were once quite popular with Silhouette shooters for Hunter Class rifles because of their loading convenience. Here is a 700 DM in .260 Rem. caliber I used in Silhouette Hunter Class competitions.
