What is the most recent knife you bought?

I had my SAK classic seized by a nice trooper once on the way into our supreme court, when I was appearing as local counsel. What, 1.25" of blazing steel. He was kind enough to return it as I left--another benefit of carrying inexpensive knives.:)
I had to leave / hide my keys outside the county courthouse when I went in to get a document from the recorder of deeds. The SAK classic was the offender. The keys were still there when I got back. Now why they wouldn't let me just put them on the windowsill on the wrong side of the metal detector where they could see them was beyond me then and it still is. But that was a hard nope.

When I get elected Sheriff, there'll be a stack of plastic baskets for courthouse visitors to store their forbidden items in waiting on the table by the metal detector.

Long ago,mid 90's, I was headed into the old Federal Building in Tulsa for an interview. At the"security" station I emptied my pockets and I was told to leave the Swiss Army knife there. I was on my way up to my appointment when I realized that I was wearing my Bowen belt knife belt... :uhoh:
(Got the SAK back when I was done.) :)

The state courthouses in NYC will check sharp and pointed objects for you, unless they’re illegal. The illegal stuff, generally if you don’t make an issue, they’ll just confiscate it and you walk away. Make an issue and it’s an arrest.

The Federal courthouse, they’ll turn you away with anything sharp or pointed. We went for training at the Manhattan Federal courthouse and were told under no circumstances to bring a weapon, they wouldn’t even check them for us.

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I bought these three USA made Craftsman knives for $40. The lockback folder is not a 110 knickoff, it's more a Prince size. I like it. All of these three have honest patina and are still nice and tight.

And the 111 as a gift for a friend for $60. In addition to being a Gunsmoke nut, he sings and plays in a locally popular C&W band and this will fit right in when they perform.

Knives that have seen a lot of use and pocket time always look good.

See, the thing is, though, that I've totally done things like that, too. Gotten through airports with knives in my carry on. But I guarantee if I had tried to get something by deliberately I woulda gotten busted for sure!

Just wanted to bring up something that nags at me. I always follow threads like this, usually they're one of the best. Even if they cost me money but we get to see some amazing knives.

Please post a pic and who the manufacturer is and the model of the knife or knives. That way we all know who to look up to see what other types of knives they have.

Just a small request from the peanut gallery, carry on.

Magnacut is what I'd prefer, if for no other reason than to try that steel out. But yellow scales? Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

But I'm sure I could find some after market scales I like.
I’m not sure of aftermarket scales since the Salt knives are linerless, but lots of folks dye the frn with pretty good results.

I’m looking forward to the bright color because I plan to beat on mine a bit outdoors. Gardening, yard work, camping, fishing, etc. Should make it easier to spot when I drop it. I’ve grown fond of some of the “louder colors” in general, though. Just to mix things up a bit.

Ah I hadn’t thought of that.

I always go for muted colors with a highlight of color here and there. But in a survival type knife or one that’s potentially droppable I could see doing it.

Part of my "Buy Cold Steel knives before GSM forks them" panic buy:

SnvFPwO.jpg

Already modded the DF Bowie to cut off the despised upper guard and add something to the handle; way too small and not comfortable; all good now.

The downside: Since I took the above pics, I bought a CS Drop Forged Boot Knife, a CS GI Tanto and another CS Recon Tanto, this one is SK-5 vs. it's San Mai brother shown above. What's wrong with me????????

A Victorinox Compact... which is already getting a lot of use! I opened some boxes with the knife, and have been using the pen, scissors, and tweezers a lot too... I replaced the one tool I see no value in, the toothpick, with a small fire starter as well. It's a great little gadget!

I have one of those key organizers that stacks the keys so they don't jingle. Like a Keybar but cheaper. Everytime I go into the court house, at least one deputy there says something about it being a knife. I usually have to unfold my keys to show it has 5 keys and a tiny USB drive, no knife. Then they get a chuckle when I say I used to work at the jail behind the court house, and hated jingling keys. For everything I know not to have, I lock it up in my vehicle. But I still get stopped for those keys.
