What was your first rifle?

First was a Marlin model 60 bought for me by my mother when I was like fourteen or so. First I bought for myself was a WASR-10 from the local Dunhams.

My first was a Christmas gift from Dad when I was 11. He gave me his first deer rifle...A Savage 99C 308. My dad killed his first deer with it, I killed my first with it. I still have it and I still love it. Funny thing about getting the rifle though...when I went back to school and we all took turns telling the class what we got for Christmas, my liberal CA Bay Area teacher about had a heart attack when I she figured out I was being serious when I told the class I got a rifle. LOL.

The first I shot? Probably a Stevens .22/.410 at around age 9. Although it's possible an older Remington bolt-action .22LR was first as well (can't remember). The first that was "mine"? A Stevens Model 66-B in .22LR my father bought when I was around 12 or so. I'm the only one who ever shot it much, so although it was never a gift it kind of became mine. The first I bought with my own money? A Remington 700 SPS in .30-06 I bought last February a few days after turning of 22.

Remington model 514 single shot .22 bolt action and 50 years later it still has the best feel in my hands of any other my 40 plus rifles. Maybe because I grew up with my hands holding that rifle, that it molded itself to me.:D

Marlin Model 60, still have it too. My Mom and Dad tied it alongside the Christmas Tree trunk and I did not notice it. I did however notice my gift pile was a lot smaller than my two brothers. Mom kept saying "Boy you got to look harder" I was 14 and will always remember them all laughing when I finally realized there was something extra for me.

A remington 41P that My Dad bought new, before Pearl Harbour. It cost around twenty bucks. I still have and shoot it from time to time...Essex
