What will your next handgun be?

Actually, come to think of it, there is one more handgun I'd *REALLY* like to have, if it's ever refined and becomes reality - it's the "Boberg XR9" - talk about innovation in design!

If the Boberg becomes reality within about 5 years, I'll get it. If it doesn't, I'll be looking at the Rohrbaugh R9 instead.

I think ultimately I will pass on the FN Fiveseven, but specifically why do you say that, Thernlund?

HK P7M8...or...the NIB Nickel 4" Colt Python my local GS just acquired...$1850 OTD...Whew!!!

Man, I'm glad that I don't have a hankering for an old Pyhton. These old Smiths that I'm buying are bad enough.

Why? Don't get me wrong. I know it's a "gimmick" gun for the most part, but I have a ton of guns I got for no other reason than to just goof with.

(Yeah... I know about the whole firing out of battery/KABOOM thing. Same crap goes around about Glocks. Not good enough.)

Good friend of mine got one for the same reason. He regretted it deeply. It provides novelty enjoyment for about fifteen minutes at the range and then you are left with something that you suddenly realizes is completely useless for any purpose other than wasting money. The buddy promptly sold it to some mall ninja type who really thought it could pierce body armor on a bad guy if needed.

It CAN pierce SBA "if needed", if you handload it, and even if you do not. My guess is IIIA with proper handloads, and both IIA and II with factory stuff.

Also, I will say that I would not refuse a gift of a Python, or any other snake gun for that matter! :D

Mm. Fair enough.

Hmmmm. Maybe (as to the Vulcan, but it was a joke).

I don't expect the AP 5.7 rounds would present a problem. They're essentially just real hot loads.

The armor piercing 5.7 rounds are restricted for civilians but can you legally hand load them?

Dude. No it's not a DD. Yes, you can handload them to the same potential as the LEO only rounds (albeit you may have to cast your own bullets), perfectly legally in most states.

And most importantly, define "armor piercing". You don't have to have the law enforcement only rounds to pierce a certain level of soft body armor. The round is so fast that even what they sell to non-LEOs will pierce armor much much better than standard handgun rounds. It's not an either-or proposition. It's a continuum or sliding scale of armor piercing ability. There's level IIA, II, IIIA, III, and IV. I would not want to confront a bad guy with a 5.7 pistol with so-called "civilian ammo" wearing IIA or II vest - I believe it will punch right through pretty easily, espec. IIA.

P.S. If you want a poor-man's FiveseveN, then the .22 Reed Express conversion for the CZ52 is the way to go - it's quite a bit more powerful than the 5.7x28 actually:

What's really impressive to us is that the velocities on the lower weight bullets are running the same as a .22 Hornet out of a 22" barrel.
Point of note, the FN Five-SeveN reports 2200FPS from a 5" barrel with a 27g bullet, the .22 Reed Express is able to push a 45g bullet at the same speed from the same length barrel.

I'm not looking for anything at the moment. My last purchase (hunted for months) was an unfired 3" Ruger SP101 in 9mm. I really don't have anything on my wish right now ... first time in years!

Smith and Wesson 25-2 from this coming Saturday's auction. I already decided I will NOT be bought off it.

I'm looking at some form of S&W .22 revolver. It'll be either the 317 kit gun or the 617, but I am leaning toward the 317. Hopefully in the next few months.

Springfield Armory XD-M 9mm and CZ 75 SP-01 Tactical.........and a .50AE Desert Eagle Mark XIX for the HELL OF IT :D
