Just out of curiousity, if a nationwide AWB coupled w/ a ban on .50bmg rifles was going to be effective in say 6 months and anything up to that time would be grandfathered in, what would you stock up on now and how would you pay for it? What rifles, receivers, ammo, parts, reloading equipment? Cash, CC, Equity Loans?

I'd probably take the credit card and go on the shopping spree to end all shopping sprees. Debt! Ha, I laugh at thee. Who cares about debt when you've got guns

That or an independent Alaska, with dual citizenship. Fishing and hunting in one or the other when the weather gets too extreme. We can only hope, huh?

I'm down with an independent Texas. The weather there is far more to my liking than Alaska.

Yeah, that's the problem. I'm not entirely sure what guns I'd get. I'd probably pick up reloading compenents up to wazoo for each caliber i'd have to stock. I'd be sure to pick up probably one .50. I'd grab a few of each of the usual suspects, AK's, FAL's, AR's... So on and so forth. I already have most of them, but if you can't buy anymore, you're goign to want as many as you can have for the future. I mean, what if parts break? Suppose they banned the importation of gun parts too... Or maybe even the sale of anything gun related. No sense in not being prepared :)

Depends on the nature of the ban. If it's a remake of the old one, then I'd concentrate on magazines for what I own and anything I think I might want to buy in the future. I'd stock up on Ruger 10/22 mags especially.

I've already got an AK and an AR. Those cover most of my bannable wants. That's the odd thing. As much as I rail against the ban, most of what I own would be unaffected by it. Revolvers, bolt rifle, lever rifle, SIG P220, none hold more than 10 rounds. My Hi Power and the previously mentioned AR, AK & 10/22 are it.

id take every penny to buy as many ak, sks, fal, g3, .50 cal guns i could. not the biggest fan of teh AR though. and why not a few semi-shotties while im at it. also as many magazines as i could find. 55 rounders, 75 round drums, 100 round drums, hell if i could id find some kits to make the ak's into belt fed. every single part i would have 4x of. hmmmm this is gettin pricey. maybe ill just head to quantico and sleep in the marine corps armory.....

I'd buy an Olympic Arms OA-93, Springfield M1A, and an M1 Garand (in 308), plus enough reloading equipment and supplies to reload at least 10,000 rounds of misc calibers, such as 45ACP, 223, 7.62x39, 30 carbine, 308, 9mm, 38/357, and 44 mag......I think I'd be pretty well covered...for a while.

I have always wanted to own an AK-47, so that would be what I would buy. I already have one SKS, so I guess I would probably buy another, just for good measure.

Of course, I would buy a few thousand rounds of ammo for them also. I already have about 600-800 rounds on hand, but with that thing, I feel like I could never have enough.

Honestly, as much as I think it would be great to own a .50, I doubt I would run out and get one. I have a hard enough time trying to find a range that will let me shoot FMJ rifle ammo, let alone trying to find one I can shoot a .50 at.

My previous dream (now come true) was to have an AR. I built one a few months after the ban lifted, so at least I have that covered now.

I wouldn't buy anything. I confess to not having any personal interest in the guns banned in the first AWB - I'm happy with my bolt action rifles, so far they do everything I want.

The first thing I would do is get myself a nice AR-15 (either a good Bushmaster or genuine Colt), half a dozen spare magazines, and some ammo using my credit card or perhaps a loan from my 401k. Or maybe the one and then the other, so I'd avoid the high interest charges.

We’re already living this scenario in California. I wasn’t paying attention in 1989, when the initial ban was enacted, I think. I was also an unemployed 18-year-old at that time. When .50-BMG rifles were proscribed last year, I was paying attention. I wrote letters of opposition to the powers that be to no avail, and I still couldn’t afford to buy even a bare receiver.

My current strategy is to head off the closure of the curio-and-relic “loophole.â€

I'd get a 50bmg upper and a 6.8 or 50 Beowulf upper if funds allow. I'd try to pick up at least 5 extra .223 mags.

Otherwise, I already have what I want that's likely to be covered under an AWB type ban.

Well, I already planned for that to some extent. Within the last few months, I bought a WASR AK with the lug, hi caps, and flash hider, "just because", and two SKS's. I figure, if something is going to be banned, the SKS and AK will be first on the list, so that's what I got. Look at the news lately, it's always "SKS this" or "AK-47" that (Wisconsin, Tyler, Tx., the mall shooting in NY, etc. etc. etc.). They'll definitely be the first to go.

The only other gun I might pick up if a ban was for sure coming would be a nice AR of some kind, probably a Bushmaster, and then I'd buy TONS of hi cap mags for all my guns that used them.

If it came time to turn them in  I'd be buying lots of PVC pipe, cosmoline, and a good sturdy shovel. And maybe 5 acres out in the stix somewhere with few rocks and sandy soil. ;)

Magazines, tons of magazines. A Barrett M82 variant, many AR receivers. Maybe another FiveseveN and the FN P90.

I'd rather make noise to my elected congress critters to make sure nothing of the sort comes to pass though.

A short stack of AR lowers, and common but new model full-cap mags like Glock 10mm, .45, .40, Walther P99, Steyr, Sig 229, etc.

I've never been in favor of that strategy myself, because that's what many of the Chinese did when the Communists took over and it didn't do them any good. Hiding your firearms and pretending that they don't exist is as good as turning them in. Either way, you won't be able to use or enjoy them. As someone once said (I forget who), "If it's time to start thinking of burying guns, then it's high time they were dug up!"

Receiver flats for everything that was on the ban list, magazines up the wazoo, plus all of the .50 bullets that I could find. I have no .50, and plan to get none (unless I hit the lottery :D ), but it'd be a nice way to make some money while enhancing freedom. Oh, and spare reloading dies and primers.
