Oh that was pricless LOL

At first as I read, I thought someone added a few pounds to me, but in my leathers I look a little bigger!

score: 2 dead biker GOOD Guys..

Picture this: You walk into a C-Store and observe a man - 6'1", about 200lb, long hair tied back, beard, black bandanna, old jeans, engineer boots, leather vest holding a gun on an average dressed guy and yelling something you can't make out.

According to many here, the guy with the gun would be shot on the spot.

Well, you would be shooting *me* if I was stupid enough to try a citizens arrest on a man.

I may not be a damn *Eensteen*, but I'm not dumb enough to put myself in that position. Appearances can be decieving.

I don't know how either the clerk or the BG would not notice you as you came through the front door. I would probably pull a Travis Bickle if I had a good angle on the BG that does not endangering the clerk with my shot. Sliding away to call 911 may alert the BG and he will know there is another witness to a crime that in most states he could get a life sentence and he may panic and start shooting up the place.

I don't know for a fact if the clerk mentioned in the poll isn't in fact a clerk at a different store who stopped in at this one after his shift to rob it on his way home and if the guy holding the gun is in fact the clerk for this particular c-store.

Retreat and call it in, and retreat quickly before my phone rings because my wife is calling to ask what is taking me so long to get some milk and bread for the grandkids we're babysitting at home.

And that is why I carry a gun.

We can't rely on cops to protect us and by the looks of things we can't rely on other CCW'ers to protect us either.

Seems they simply want to sneak out the back door and call said cops we can't rely on while the robber blows me head off...

Those of you that said you would shoot, are you that confident you could hit the BG with the 1st shot especially with a head shot? Statistically the number of shots fired vs number of hits in a gunfight is low due to stress, adrenaline dump ect.

Hi BBJ:
In this scenario the BG does not even know you are there. You have the advantage of time to draw with a two handed combat grip from fairly close range. If you can't make a head shot under those conditions, you need a new carry gun or more range time. By sliding away to call 911 you're taking the chance that the BG will see you and you lose that advantage and you will get into a gunfight where your statistics may come into play. I've read too many cases where clerks are abducted, raped and killed in these types of crimes so I'm taking the shot.

I voted & wrote before reading this thread; there's no need for me to read it since my answer is correct for me.

I voted to draw and order the BG to surrender.

Why?
The clerk is clearly in immediate danger. If there is a way for me to immediately lower or eliminate that danger, then I'll take that route.

Option #1, to start shooting right off takes away all non-lethal options. At least TRY to resolve the issue without killing anyone.

Option #3, to retreat and call for help, leaves the clerk alone to be shot...
Maybe someone else will come in time to help...
I'm too afraid, too helpless, too much of a sheep to help despite the fact that I chose to arm myself. :barf:

i am not a leo, so there is no call for me to act like one,

i would just put my self in a good firing spot and keep a eye on the bg, while waitting on hold aka dial a prayer. last time i call that hold number (auto accident) i was on hold for 10 min before a human came on the line.

Way too many varibles to give a positive answer. It's something I'd have too judge on the spot at the time. I would hate to kill an innicent person trying to do the right thing. I would also hate to get the clerk killed trying to be a hero unless I was sure the clerk was going to die anyway.
Hopefully, I'll never know.

Imagine if you draw on the guy holding the gun, and should shoot him.

What will your story be when you find out he is an Undercover cop making an arrest of a store clerk selling drugs?

I do not enter a Stop & Rob with out checking it out. If there is stuff going down inside, out comes the cell phone, and I am deadly accurate at 911. If the BG fires shots inside, I will have cover and position if I have to engage. In fact I will be acting exactly as a trained officer should do if there is a robbery in process with guns. Patrol will be waiting for back up. And if time and place allows, SWAT too. Now, how do I figure to match that kind of fire power? I do live in the suburbs of a big city now. Police will normally respond rather quickly.

Now if the Police take him, or track him, all I must do at worst is testify in court. If I shoot, I have a criminal case I MUST resolve, in the best of cases it will be simple, but there are enough examples of Prosecutors gone wild, for me to try avoidance. then we talk about the potential of the civil case. That would be totally on me. If either of these cases should go wrong my family and I have major grief.

I would rather be a great witness and go home that night, and not stay with Bubba.

I no longer march to the guns. I am no longer an active duty Marine, and no longer work for the sheriff's dept, or DOC. Already have done my duty for God, Country, and Corps. My job now, is to help some young LEO make his case.

Now, I am to be a great witness. And give all the data I collect as information to the responding units.

Even if the the guy turns out to be a BG, I will be the best witness I can be.

I have been in enough firefights in my life that I don't have anything to prove to anyone, especially me anymore. Remember, when you see the elephant, the elephant see's you too. And often things aren't exactly how I thought they were, or go down the way I expected once the shooting starts.

STUFF HAPPENS.

I am no longer a young stud wannabe. I am an old fat fart who has been there, done that, got the sweat shirt and sun visor years ago. I don't need to do it again.

Go figure.

Great input chieftan.

I imagine there are a lot of CCW carriers [like me] who don't have much perspective on the realities of armed conflict.

I'll try to remember

keep a cool head and be a good observer

I guess I'ld like to add be conservative about applying your defensive skills outside your home. In my house, especially at night, I tend to think I would be more aggressive to uninvited intruders.
