What would you do?

I thought the P229 was illegal because of the night sights? Is it just the mags? Can you keep that one if you don't have high caps?
The SIG P-229 is totally legal. Only modification you can not have is a threaded barrel. So, get some 10 round magazines and you are good to go.

I don't know if my Mosin Nagant with fixed bayonet is legal in California.
All models of the Mosin Nagant are 100% CA legal.

The AR, I just couldn't bring myself to weld a 10rd mag into it and ruin a lower. Not to mention what a pain in the butt it would be to load it. I would think that it would eventually cause seriously premature wear on the rear pin hole opening and closing it that often...unless that law has changed and you can use a detachable 10rd magazine, which I prefer anyway for bench shooting.
You do not have to weld a 10 round magazine in place to make an AR15 CA legal.

CA has 3 categories of assault weapons. Category 1 & 2 are make/model assault weapons and are illegal in CA. Category 3 are identified by features.

As long as your AR15 is not on this list www.ag.ca.gov/firearms/infobuls/kaslist.pdf then it is not a Category 1 or 2 assault weapon and considered an "off list" AR. An "off list" AR can be configured so it does not meet the requirements to be a Category 3 assault weapon, which would make it CA legal.

The easiest modification to make a "off list" AR15 CA legal is to install a bullet button and use 10 round magazines. The bullet button installs inconjunction with the magazine release and makes it so that you need a tool (tip of a .223 bullet) to release the magazine. Thus, making it a semi-auto rifle that has a fixed 10 round magazine which is CA legal.

How can you bring in non-CA approved handguns? wouldn't that be illegal? or are you being sarcastic and implying selling them on the black market and I am missing it?
CA law allows people relocating into CA to bring non-CA "approved" handguns into CA. As long as the handguns are not classified as Assault Weapons, you can legally bring any handgun you want into CA. Once in CA, you have 60 days to register your handguns with the CA DOJ (requires filing out a form & $19 per handgun). Before or after you register your handguns, you can legally sell them via PPT (Private Party Transaction). PPT is a FTF (face to face) transaction conducted with a CA FFL dealer.

CA law allows the selling of non-approved handguns in CA via PPT. Due to supply/demand economics, non-CA "approved" handguns sell for more than their MSRP. Hence, the reason why a NIB Kel-Tec P-32 sells for $500 and a used H&K HK-45 sells for $2000.

No matter what you do, keep in mind you can not import into CA any large capacity magazine. So, if you bring your SIG and AR, you have to aquire 10 round magazines for them.

Also, I highly recommend you go to www.calguns.net and read all about CA gun laws and what you can legally own in CA.

What's a CA Legal AR15?

Is it one with: All internal parts removed?
Must be constructed from all plastic and capable of firing
Nerf rounds at less than 50 fps?
Full auto/semiauto/selector switch complete with suppressor
and scope, but MUST be in jpeg. or MP3 format, meaning it be
full auto OR semiauto, but MUST be only a PICTURE?
Just the letters "AR", and numbers "15" itself?

I am confused here.

Use this flow chart to find out www.calguns.net/caawid/flowchart.pdf

So you don't have to actually weld a mag into the lower?

No.

As long as your reciever is "off-list", you have to concern yourself with what type of features you have on your rifle.

If you want banned features on your rifle (ie. pistol grip, folding/extending stock/flash hider/forward pistol grip/etc.), then you need to fix a 10 round magazine in place. You can do so, by using a magazine lock (bullet button, prince-50, or RADDlock) and 10 round magazines.

There is no need to weld the magazine in place. Some manufacturers (ie. Bushmaster) have done it in order to sell their rifles in CA, but it is not needed. In fact, at this years SHOTshow, SIGARMs said they would be making a CA legal SIG-556 that uses a magazine lock and they have no intention of welding the magazine in place.

Nothing special, just a stock Rock River with a 16" barrel...nothing "tacticool" about it. I guess I will have to see if that is on the list. Do you know where to get one of the mag devices? Are they user friendly to install? Thanks.

My RRA case says it is a:
Model: Tasc
Type: Car

The list has the following:
Rock River Arms, Inc.
Standard A-2
Car A2
Standard A-4 Flattop
Car A4 Flattop
NM A2 - DCM Legal
LE Tactical Carbine

Sooo...I'm not sure It isn't a flat top.
My case doesn't say if it is an A2 or an A4
It looks just like the A2 here http://www.rockriverarms.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=category.display&category_id=223 but it has the 6 position stock. It looks like Cars are illegal in California?

Don't go, people loose thier minds once they move there. I have a cousin who I haven't spoke to in years, I called him about a relative of ours , His uncle, who passed away. I get a message on the machine, from his Joan Biaes wanabe wife, who sounds like she's under water, saying "they don't monitor thier recording device very often, and to call on thier "mobile" phones, for which no number is given, so of course I leave the appropriate message. And no one calls back, he sends Baloons, I am tempted to fly out and bitch slap the both of them. I wish I had the email he sent me before I lost my last hard drive, they think that she was poisoned fron the ions in the air in Silicone Valley, and this guy is a programmer with a top security clearence, we are screwed, lol, you may catch this dreaded Ca. disease, and wake up one morning surrounded by Bran, in a bed of flowers.

If you're not thrilled with the AR, I'd sell it and get a CMP Garand, a C&R bolt rifle (Mauser, Enfield, or Schmidt-Rubin, since you've already got the Mosin) and maybe a stripped off-list AR lower in case you change your mind later.

Otherwise, is there someone as you can trust who would store the other weapons you mentioned? Or buy them at a fairly sweetheart price, giving you the right to buy them back at the same price when opportunity presents?

No, I don't have anyone to leave them with, that was my first thought. I have a Turk Mauser and an 1895 Chilean Mauser, and a K31...don't have any Enfields though. The Garand has always been on my "dream list". I have a buddy that has a Garand he mentioned wanting to sell off...I wonder if he would trade.....
