What would I get ... you asked

Well, since you asked what I would get (even though it's not in your wish list) :)

My next gun in that price range is going to be the HK USP Compact in .45 ACP.

Sweet gun!

Cheers,
ChickenHawk

Possum, not on the list, but a DSA STC58C. Deerhunter got one delivered for that price. You've just got to find a dealer who will handle the transfer for you. Good condition mags are five bucks a pop from DSA. If you don't like FALs, how about a PTR91? If neither, I'd get a Savage M10FP in .308 and some quality glass for it. 5.56 and 7.62x39 are effective and fun to shoot, but man, .308 has some serious power and range as I'm sure you know.

A Ruger Gp100 .357
A Finn M39
2 cases or more ammo to feed it.
An M96 Swede just because.

DPMS AR-10 (LR-308). Accurate, lethal/ big-game capable (.308), fun to shooot, tacticool.

Put a decent piece of glass on her, and you're good to go.

Are you collecting, building a set of self-defense tools, or adding competition weapons?

1) Carbine

The M4, MAK90, and SKS are all great for close range rifle fighting.

2) Pistols

The XD's and Kahr are great for carry.

From what I can see, you really have everything you *need* to defend yourself. Have you considered getting formal training in the use of these weapons?

The only "holes" I can see are for long range shooting. You may want to look at a battlerifle such as a Garand, FAL, or M1A. These will get you longer reach and higher capacity. You should be able to score an M1A for around 900. You should be able to get a good Garand, ammo, and bunch of clips for $900.

You could also look at getting a bolt action rifle with scope.

Christmas wish list

I'd probably get a Smith and Wesson 4" 686 and have some action work and bead blast finish done at the custom shop. I haven't checked into it much so if I found somewhere else that did very good work I might have someone else do it.

$900, and limited to gun related stuff (meaning I can't just use it to buy another dental crown)?

Progressive press with all the goodies. Spend the rest on consumables.

i am an Infantryman i get alot of formal tarinning but there are a few classes that i do want to take and that money has already been set aside, but great advice. i plan to go to TDI ohio. and do the handgun levels 1-3 asap.

i have a great dealer who would do it for me and he hardly ever charges me for the transfer so that would be no problem, some surplus ammo and cheap mags you can't get much better than that! hummmmmmm.......

again guys thanks for all the great suggestions!

900 USD? I could get HK G36 or MP5A5, or that FN F2000 that I have eyeballed. I would have to add a little to that money, but close nonetheless.

Otherwise, if you don't know what to do with that money rather put it up on good use, like investing or smth, instead of blowing it away.

I would probably buy a new Stoeger Cougar in .40, and a Beretta 84 or Browning BDA 380, just for fun. What's left would buy a fair chunk of ammo. Or the old S&W 686 a neighbor has, nice gun, but I like the DW a lot better, and I can fix ANYTHING on it without taking it to someone. I have enough parts to keep my 715 going for the next century.

Possum,

With $900 I think I'd get the revolver and then spend the remainder on ammo to feed the rest of your brood. I'd also set some aside for a nice dinner/present for the wife...it'll take the edge off of her when you buy the gun and ammo. Oh, and as a rule most wives don't consider going to Sonic "a nice dinner." I found that out the hard way.

If it were me I would go with the CX4. I have shot a rental and they are fun. Plus you look to be in need of a 9mm. Lots of rifle practice without the rifle ammo $. I would never suggest a mini14 when you have an AR that does what a mini will do only better.

You have no revolvers, so I would say a new revolver and save the rest for a rainy day, like when your car breaks down.
