This isn't an apocalypse type list, it is a list of guns that you need for sport, hunting, and recreation.

I wouldn't have any if I was limited to only what I "need" for those categories.

If I had to get rid of them, the last to go would be the Garand, a 12 gauge, and my Dan Wesson .357.

Spartan list

1-Corinthian helm in bronze with horsehair crest--they are simply bad ass
2-hop-lite shield--for dieting and returning home
3-bronze greaves--also useful for soccer
4-6 foot spear--I've never needed more
5-a nice kopis
6-a good dagger--for concealed carry
7-a cuirass--why not?
8-a leather tunic-- to avoid chafing
9-a pair of sandles--maybe Tevas
10-a good team of horses and a chariot--why wear out the sandles?

Now for the rather luxurious set of ten guns...

1-Henry Golden Boy 22mag--smooth and pretty
2-Marlin 336SS 30-30, peep sight--bush hunting
3-Marlin 338MXLR, scoped--hunting in open country
4-Heritage Rough Rider 22lr/mag--cheap, to match the Golden Boy
5-Mosin Nagant 91/30--cheap, historical, and C/R available
6-M1 Garand rifle--Cheap, historical, and who doesn't need a semi-auto? Plus I rarely get to say "aught".
7-AK-47 Chinese made with wooden stock and flip-up bayonet fully functional select fire (why wish for a gelding when you can wish for a stallion?)--reminds me of times in the Peace Corps (ironic, huh?)
8-Walther P1--C/R available, just-in-case pistol
9-12 gauge--who knows when extra wire will come in handy?
10-naval black powder long 18 pounder--how else will I repel alligators from my canoe?

Well I have widdled mine down from the 9 I posted back in '09 (post 61) to the 5 I will never get rid of.

Colt Python
Colt Diamondback
Marlin 1894
FNP-9
Ruger 77/22 MK II

One .22 rifle
one .22 pistol
one .257 Roberts to 7MM magnum class rifle ( a popular caliber like .308..270,30-06) would be best.
One good 12 gauge shotgun.
One large caliber handgun (.357magnum up)
Pick the action type you like

I had an original must have six:
Rem.870
Savage 99 CD .308 with Weaver Widefield 3X scope
Ruger Standard Model .22 auto
.50 muzzleloader -mine was a CVA
Browning BL.22
Ruger Security Six .357
I now have many more different rifles ,pistols and shotguns but 52 years of hunting experience tells me these were all I really "needed" for hunting and defense in the U.S.A.
