Lots of if "you could only have one or 3 or 6" or ? guns. How about this twist?

List your minimum battery of personal guns and what their purpose is.
No collectables. These should all have to have a definable use such as plinking, varmints, SD, HD, targets, etc. No safe queens. No overt duplications.

My choices depend on the circumstances requiring me to only have 3 or 6 guns.

ruger 77/22 MK II in .22WMR
Sig 232 in .380 CCW
AR 15 with .223 and .308 uppers
12 or 20g SxS shotgun

Personal Battery.....hmmmm

a 8-1/2# 12 gauge O/U for targets
a 6-1/2# 12 gauge O/U for hunting
a 7-1/2# 12 gauge semi or O/U to back up the others
A set of 28 gauge tubes for both O/U's

a .22lr rifle for practice, small game, preferably a full-size bolt action
a 7mag bolt action for hunting anything in the lower 48
a small-medium caliber, possibly semi for predators, SHTF, all-around fun

a 9mm Rohrbaugh for pocket carry CCW
a 9mm GlocK/SA/CZ or similar for HD
a .22 conversion kit for above
a 9mm TBD for backup of either one of the above

That would be my MINIMUM.......I could easily add another two or three shotguns and handguns

Scoped Ruger .22 (small varmints)
Scoped .308 or 30.06 (large distant varmints)
High capacity shotgun (close scattered large varmints)
AR-15 or AK-47 (close or far moving/hiding numerous varmints)
High capacity autoloading handgun (concealable to surprise varmints)

1. 12 Gauge Shotgun (All-around hunting / HD)
2. Scoped .308 or .30-06 (big game hunting / zombie counter-sniper)
3. .22LR rifle (small game / cheap ammo / practice)
4. Full size semi-auto or revolver - .45 / 9mm / .40 / .44 / 10mm (HD / SD in wilderness)
5. Compact CCW - .38 / 9mm / 40 / 45 (J-Frame Revolver / XDSC / Glock / Kel-Tec / Kahr / doesn't matter)
6. Semi-Auto rifle / carbine - .223 / .308 / 7.62 (SHTF scenario)

Note: You could probably combine #2 and #6 with an M1A
Note2: For my ideal finalized list, I would standardize calibers of #4 and #5

That's my minimum 6 well-rounded-95%-of-all-scenarios-in-the-lower 48 list.

1. Freedom Arms .22lr w/ extra 22mag, plinking, small game hunting.
2. Colt Series 80, 45acp, range gun, HD, SD
3. Glock G26 SD
4. Maybe a 9mm Rohrbaugh for really compact carry.

5. Stoeger 12ga sxs for upland bird hunting
6. Mossy 500, 20", 8 shot HD
7. 870 12ga for hunting

8. Thompson G2 .223 for varmints
9. Savage 116 lightweight SS, Syn stock '06 for big game
10. AK or variant for SD
11. Savage 93 rimfire for targets, small game

My .02

1) A Home defense (Shotgun)
2) Personal Protection (Pistol)
3) A Practice / training / small game (.22 lr)
4) Hunting (Bolt action in .308 or 30-06 / equivelant)
5) SHTF (Semi Auto / SKS, AK, AR, Etc)
6) Long Range / big game (Scoped Rifle)

Then if possible X3 (Primary, Back-up, and a Spare / loaner).

Just noticed, mine is like Kansan, said another way.......

I have most of my "needs" covered:

.22lr AMT hardballer.
AR15 with a rimfire upper.
5" Kimber for EDC.
Glock 19 for a beater/car/truck/HD pistol.
Mossberg 590 - really no reason not to own a good 12 gauge pump.
AR15 for HD/SHTF.

Not the best choices (.22lr 1911 and AR15), but what I have. The one thing I lack is a .30cal. I've wanted an M14/M1a for a while, just haven't had the money.

S & W 629 Classic with 8 3/8" barrel. (pre-lock)

Plain jane 1911 style .45 ACP.

Fox model b 12 Ga. double SxS.

Originality in threads is gone.

Bobba, you just joined, and already your only two posts are disparaging remarks. Perhaps you should sit back, relax, peruse the site a bit and join or start conversations that you feel will be constructive, instead of harping on others right off the bat.

It is a thread that has been repeated often enough there are two others running concurrently with this new and unimproved one, and I'm not new here.

George; for clarification, Bobba signed up here and made a dozen posts in a matter of a couple hours, the first two or so (this being one of them) pretty derogatory towards the OP or the topic.

The other thread in which he posted was thoroughly cleaned up by the mods, thankfully, to get it back on track. My comment here was not directed so much at the topic, but at the apparent attitude of someone who signs up and immediately starts flame wars and gets into pissing contests.

Yes, we all know these threads have been done to death. So don't post in them. There's no reason to take the "low road" just because a thread has been around before.

Edit: And it appears there's been more cleaning up here in this thread, sorry for any continuity issues. Also, I suppose this side discussion in this and previous post may and ought to disappear.

No collectables. No safe queens. No overt duplications.

No minimum, no maximum...

I guess my current, complete arsenal, plus all the guns on my shopping list applies.
I don't collect, I don't duplicate, and I don't do safe queens.
Each firearm that I own and ever plan to own has/will have a specific roll, use, and purpose.

Personal battery on a budget.

used charter arms .38spcl CC/bedside gun $250
used mossberg 12ga hunting/home defense $175
used marlin model 60 .22 hunting plinking $ 75
used marlin 336 30-30 hunting $225
TTL $725

4 guns that will cover the vast majority of needs for a very reasonable price, spend the other $275 on ammo and you will have $1000 well spent.

With a bigger budget you can make it look a lot prettier, and a good scrounger can shave some off of this, but IMHO it is a good start.

No minimum, no maximum, just want to know what everybody would have with a fresh start.
No collectables.
No safe queens.

Hmmmm, kinda "If I knew then what I know now" sorta thing.

Rifles

Plinking - .22 AR (if money is no object I'd probably get the new Colt .22 AR)

.22 Target - Anschutz 1808

SD/HD - RR Elite LAR15 or the Colt LE Carbine

Long Range HD - M1A (Loaded, Whitefeather, etc.)

Hunting (intermediate/large game) - Tikka T3 Lite 300 WinMag

Hunting (small/intermediate game) - Tikka T3 Lite .223

Hunting (small game) - Ruger 10/22 Magnum (.22 WMR)

Shotgun

SD/HD - Remington 1100 12ga

Hunting - 1100 12 ga, again. Just set up differently depending upon critter.

Hunting - 1100 20 ga, just set up for smaller critters.

Clays - 1100 Sporting 20, yet again (ya think I like 1100s?)

Handguns

This will take some thought.

SD (compact) - Commander size BHP in .40 (already have the 9mm)

SD (full size) - BHP in .40

HD (full size) - BHP in .40

Plinking - BHP with .22 upper

Hunting - Gee, do they make a BHP in 10mm?

I sounded a little snarky, sorry.

If starting over, and limited to less than $1000 (to make it challenging, and food for thought for those of us so limited) ....

(1) Marlin Model 60 (.22lr) $150
(2) Marlin XLR, scoped (.308) $300
(3) Kel-tec P-11 (9mm, convertible to .40 S&W, as funds allow) $250
