Based on my experience as a road officer, Glock is the way to go. I sometimes think about how nice it would be to carry my STI or CQB on my duty belt, but then i think about how many times i have had to jump fences, crawl under fences, crawl under cars (vehicle maintainence), rush into rooms (banging my holster/pistol into everything), direct traffic in the rain and snow, chased people through the woods, etc.. I start thinking that the Glock should probably stay where its at. In my department , we do not get the option of choosing our weapon, they issue us Glock 31s .Everyone has the same ammo and magazines in case you have to cross load.
I do shoot a 1911 better than I do a Glock, but I think the Glock fits in with my job and what I require in a duty weapon. If I had my choice in caliber, it would be 45acp.
As a Police Officer, you never know where your watch will take you. You could be up to your waist in water helping evacuated people from a flood zone, or you could be assist in a multi-agency rescue operation in the middle of God's country.
But , in the end, it is all up to you in what you decide to get. I would recommend shooting several and basing your choice from there.
