Whats a good wall hanger for over the fireplace?

I'm not a shotgunner, but I think I'd have to find a cheap old shotgun. Maybe one with damascus barrels if I could find a cheap enough non-collectable one.

I'm biased as ive been cavalry for the last seven years, so its a stetson, spurs, cav saber, and 1841 percussion rifle(replica), and a colt walker(replica).

Depends on my mood.

M41A Pulse Rifle (10x24mm rifle with underbarrel 30mm grenade launcher). Over the mantel, a portrait of Helen Ripley in her jump suit in a defiant pose.*

Or a 1930s vintage Winchester 1894 with receiver or tang sights under a mountain meadow landscape with grazing deer.

Or Uncle Dayton's .22 under a picture of a fence post with a tin can on top.

The other day I saw an 1853 Enfield with bayonet at a LGS. I thought it would make a good wall hanger.

There were Americans fighting with the Finns in the winter war against the ruskies...I bet some of them used Nagants. US Army also had some M1916 nagants
The Mosin-"Nagants" the US had were made by Remington for the last Czar who was overthrown, and his entire family murdered, in the Russian Revolution. For some reason, I can't imagine why, the last orders never made their way into the hands of those communist peasants.

100 years later ours are trying to ban them. Go figure...

I would use the Hawken percussion rifle I built from a kit. Lot of fun to build and finish and looks great too.

I have no qualms about owning using or displaying a "commie gun", some were well made, and like so many love pointing out in this forum how the owner used it is not the fault of the weapon.

And in two completely separate points, American ownership of SK's and Nagants is so widespread because we won the cold war. If you're Nagant pre-dated 1945 there's a decent chance it was used against the Nazis.

My great grandfather's old double barrel shotgun. My dad has it now but if I ever get a house with a fireplace that's what will be hung on the mantel. Regardless of what my wife has to say about it:rolleyes:

Hate to be picky, but others will be nasty about it. Gentle reminder: Nagant is the revolver, Mosin-Nagant is the Mosin rifle with a magazine designed by Nagant. One word, Mosin is the rifle, Nagant is the revolver.

On Krag-Jorgensen I forget who designed what part, but I have always liked the looks of the cavalry carbine version.

One of my best friends has a 1861 Springfield hanging over his fireplace. I've been trying
to talk him into selling it with no luck so far. It does the job nicely.

Something really nice about an old flintlock hanging above the fireplace.

Also maybe an M1 Garand if you don't mind something a little more modern.

Honestly, I'd never hang a Mosin Nagant over my fireplace. For me it would have to be something with some American history behind it. I do have a Mosin Nagant next to my basement fireplace, but only because it is part of a larger WWII collection that I use to decorate my Man Cave.

I sort of always wanted to reproduce this spread over my fireplace (whenever I get a fireplace):

So I guess you'll need a Model 12 and a Model 94
