In a forum like this you don't usually have the chance to accociate a face with a name. However, you do get the chance to associate words and attitudes with names. For example, I think the person here with the most appropriate name is Pax. What a peace maker this lady is. She is always the first to apologize when she gets dragged into a flame war. She also goes out of her way to calm down others and is always respectful and kind. She is THR's Lady of Peace.

Skunkabilly is another name that seems to be to be very appropriate. I have no idea what a Skunkabilly is but for some reason it just fits him perfectly. :D

On the other side of the coin there are names that don't seem to fit the person well. For example, Nero45acp recently said "I got rid of my 1911's after buying a SIG 225 and a Beretta 92FS Vertec." HUH??? :what:

Anybody else have any observations?

MaterDei is an interesting name for a guy. If I'm not mistaken, it means Mother of God. :uhoh:

Betcha can't guess where mine comes from.

Mine is actually a carry over from the military. Most folks seem to have a problem with my last name so my squad seargent when he first met me looked at my name and said, "From now on your name is Riffraff." Everyone ran with it, eventually I caved and named my M-16 "Magenta." Since then when ever I need a handle or self defined user name, well...you see.

Untill a few months ago, I just spelled out my whole name.

It was unwieldy, to say the least. Also, after the WI CCW battle was heating up, and drawing to a close, I decided that having tons of THR hits potentialy come up for my name in a search engine, should THR ever get "crawled", wasn't a good thing.

The origin of "AJ Dual" is actually a rather dumb and boring story. My first "real job" was selling custom build PC's wholesale to local mom-n-pop PC stores back in the early 90's. Since having both 5 1/4" and 3 1/2" floppy drives was still common, I'd allways say, "It has dual floppies..." or, "Do you want dual five and a quarter, and three and a half?" etc.

My co-workers thought my use of the word "dual" was funny for some reason, and in another mental stretch, assumed all men/boys named "Andrew" had a mddle hame that starts with a J, like John, Jackson, or Joeseph, (For the record, mine doesn't) and "AJ Dual" was born.

When trying to come up with a replacment board name, it was the best I could think of. "AJ Dual" was already in my head as a name I'd respond to, so at least I'd have no difficulties guessing if I was being addressed or refered to. Pehaps I also thought it evokes images of somebody with a two gun rig, like a cowboy, or some action hero shooting two fisted a-la various John Woo movies.

well its kinda funny. I have a recording studio that I like to make beats in and I also rap (I know I know...thats not music...blah blah blah). well I'm also a christian and I was reading Isaiah 50 one day and found 50:7 which says

For the Lord GOD will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore I have my Face Set Like flint, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.

so you can see F S L flint means Face Set Like Flint. that was what I put on tracks I recorded for other people in my studio and also on my graffitti tag. even though I never take myself too seriously its fun stuff.

ahhh Mine is named after my business name Azrael's Custom Leather...yea I know it was kinda obvious but ya never know..

how I came up with the name of the business is another story.. :D

I am a firm believer in Murphy's Law. MrMurphy is always along for the ride, hence the name.

Wife says I yak more than the Warner Brothers cartoon character Foghorn Leghorn.

Plus, Foggy was always my cartoon hero...Liked him better than Bugs, Daffy, Elmer, Wile E Coyote & Road Runner, etc.

Although Yosemite Sam was a very close second......

mine was the serial numbers first three letters off of a glock I used to own, haven't changed it because it's so hard to pick just one firearm

You are correct. I don't use it as a nickname, rather it is a sign of devotion. It works well as a screen or login name because it's not often that I get the "name already taken" message when I use it.:) My real name, Michael, is very common (as is my last name) and it never works so I've gotten into the habit of using MaterDei. Besides, most people don't know what it means.

My nickname in the Army was Torch because I had the unfortunate tendency of setting the forest on fire when I was an OCS instructor. OCS instructors use a lot of pyrotechnic devices and for what ever reason, I'm the one that always started the forest fires. If I had been thinking I would have used it here. It sounds much cooler and it is not already in use. Oh well.

Nothing too clever about my name, I probably would have just used Mike if it had been available.:D The J is the first letter of my middle name. Best to all.

While serving in the military there were times that I grew a full beard. My beard goes almost all the way up to my eyes. When in that state more than one noted my werewolf like appearance and the nickname stuck. Been using it for the last 15 or so years as a BBS/internet nickname.
