It’s just a tongue in cheek, bad joke, dad joke type saying. Kinda akin to, “I could tell you, but I’d have to kill you...” from the good ol’ days.

The premise, of course, are the completely plausible facts that 1) if something sinks in a boating accident, it is largely considered gone forever, and 2) is gone forever without record. “I had guns but I sold them all,” would leave an expectation of receipts/bills of sales, but dropping it to the bottom of a lake is a great way to say, “it’s gone but I can’t prove it’s gone other than to prove it’s not here.”

It always baffles me how much people will put about themselves out on the internet. I know I share too much as it is, but I certainly don’t go sharing photos or lists of my collection online.
Well, all my craps registered anyway so that's not an issue....hell, I'd better have checked that lakes permit to aquire before the sinking of the boat lol.

I'm also not horribly concerned about someone from the interwebs trying to steal any of my stuff. It's the random guys walking down the street in front of the house I almost worry about, and they would steal my Toyota truck, before anything else.

Too lazy for pix,
Enfields of various flavors starting with a Mk. 1, No. 1, 1917 rifles, P14's, Springfield 03's, Berthier, Lebels, Mas 36's, Krags, Mausers-93,94,95,96,98's in long and short barrels, Commission Rifle, Arisakas in T38 and T99 flavors, ARs, SKS, m95, Carcanos, Mosins-Finn and Ruski, shotguns of various flavors and cartridges, lever guns, .22 LR semi's, and probably some oddball milsurps which escape me.

Not gonna enumerated but from 17HMR all the way to 45-70 in ctg guns, 58 in bp and includes a few pre-64 things. Bolts, levers, autos all well represented. Take anything on this continent which is overkill for a Republik of IL citizen

I'm not going to list them all, but a picture should give the black helicopter crews something to work with later. :neener: Though seeing them all laid out in one place reminds me the 10/22 still needs a new scope.

(For what's it's worth, my girlfriend knows my life goal is to have enough 22 sporters to require a 50-foot piece of fence to display them all. I might have to show her Gunny's pictures to prove I'm being reasonable. ;) )

A few years ago I was up to about a dozen and a half rifles. I realized though that some of them were just about the same, and others I had no practical use for. I went with an eye for quality over quantity and slimmed it down to five long guns:

Colt LE6960 w/ Trijicon Accupoint 1-6x24 optic

Anschutz 1710 HB 22lr w/ Bushnell Elite 6500 2.5-16x42 (I argued with myself on this scope. I went with it though because it will go down to 7 yards, and that high magnification at the top end is nice for seeing where the little .22" holes are after shooting)

Sako 85 Varmint 223 w/ Leupold VX6hd 3-18x44

Remington 870 Wingmaster Claro 12ga

And my latest little lovely is a Cooper Model 52 chambered in 6.5x55 Swede wearing a Leupold VX6hd 3-18x50.

I don't really hunt anymore (never did a whole lot) and can't get around like I used to so I'm pretty much just shooting for fun these days. I figure my little collection has me covered for most anything I might want to do though.

Grep P - about 5-6 years ago, I decided to (further) simplify; specifically, turnbolts for hunting large game, and varmints. I decided to go with just one gun for large game, which was a Weatherby in .280 rem, and one for varmints - a .223 rem. So, I did this - sold off several, and it was a good plan - would have worked out, since I don't hunt that much any more anyway, until...... I started finding things I thought would be cool and started inventing theoretical justifications to get them ("Hey, I may go to Africa someday - never know; my ship might come in" - that was the .375 HH - etc.). So now, I've expanded again over time, for better or worse, to even more than when I started the simplification. Now I have a:
-.280 Rem
-.260 Rem
-.30-06
-6.5x55
-.375 HH Mag
-.243 win
-.223 Rem
-and a .30-30 levergun which is half hunting backup / half "homestead defense"

I find it hard to resist a good deal on gunbroker, so I'll place a low bid, thinking I'll never win, but sometimes I do.

Thankfully, I've sold off a 9.3x62, a .25-06, a .17 Hornet, a .35 Remington, another .30-06, and another .243 win. As well as reduced handguns (shotguns and self-defense long guns stayed the same). I think one of the above needs to go, which will leave me with four for large game, and two for varmints. Either the .30-30 or the 6.5x55 will go, but I need to think on it for a few years first before deciding. :)

Oh, my rimfires have also increased - now I'm up to four .22lr rifles, and one .17 hummer.

I have a feeling there may be another 22lr in my near future. I saw a really nice looking old Winchester 52 at my favorite shop that might be calling my name.
