I see everything at my local range from guys with a gun in a box to ones who bring small footlockers you have to wheel in.

Of course what people carry will depend what you shoot and how you shoot it and whats available where you shoot.

After being a "gun in a box" guy for a while I finally bought a bag & added a few things to make the most of my time at range.

The purpose of this post is to see if there is anything I'm leaving out.
My shooting budget is pretty limited and my gear reflects that,
I mostly shoot handgun at an indoor range. Here is my setup:

Walmart range bag, padded soft case that opens out into a shooting rug that came with the bag.
2 sets of safety glasses one set of ear protectors and a few sets of foam ear plugs
Pocket cleaning kit, small bottle of rem oil, piece of rag.
Hammer and piece of brass rod and a multi tool to remove really stubborn jams,
a pen to scribble notes on any target I may want to save
a brick of 22lr to give me more trigger time when the bigger stuff runs dry.
Last and not always I try to keep a spare range fee tucked away for for when I run into those too much month at the end of the money times.

Currently, my "range bag" (which is actually the tote bag from my luggage set) contains:

2 Earmuffs
2 sets of shooting glasses
100-125 12 gauge shotgun shells
~1000 rounds of .22LR ammunition
Leatherman Wave
Range ID
Shotgun choke wrench

That's about it right now. The cleaning kit usually comes with me too, but its in its own little toolbox.

My bag is free givaway Noxema bag and contains

2 sets of ear protection

3 sets of foam plugs

2 sets of safety glasses

bags for brass

small cleaning kit

receipts from range sessions.

2 holsters that just kinda live there

Nothing.

I've turned into my Mentors.
I mean I have range bags, just empty and put away now...

I just show up, someone hands me a gun, some ammo and I use what is amongst folks , or kept at private shooting spots.

I sorta like this dimension I am in and I understand why Mentors liked it and grinned a lot.

Uncle Mikes range bag, wonderful product. Huge zippers, tough construction, a seriously good value when you compare it to the other junk or beloved firearms manufacturers will allow their name to be put on.

Boxes of bullets, whatever I'm taking to the range that day.

2 pairs glasses
small screwdriver kit
shoot n c targets
small bottle rem oil
silicon cloth
small flashlight

Range bag is a 16" double zipper tool bag w/ strap and small outside storage pouches (not being used atm), that was being discontinued at Lowe's a few months back.

2 sets of muffs
box of plugs
4 pairs of glasses (all on the sun)

a few pistolas

I see we don’t have any EMS people here.
Don’t forget that First Aid Kit (small). Can come in handy. Besides….You do not want to be embarrassed, asking for it at the range, if needed. Hopefully....Triage Procedures will not have to be enacted.

Ear muffs, several sets of disposable ear plugs, chrono, staple gun, small screwdrivers, brass rod, extra staples, 2 pair safety glasses, assorted allen wrenches, thermometer, pens, majic marker, clipboard with sheets for logging chrono data, roll of masking tape, target "squares" for covering bullet holes, a few stick on targets in case I forget targets, holster for 1911, one power reading glasses, oil, hmmmm, I think that's it. Probably forgot something.

I see we don’t have any EMS people here.
First aid kit is in the vehicle.

My "range bag" is the tote my breast pump came with. Big old "Ameda" tag on it, but most gun folks don't know what Ameda makes!

What I bring varies greatly. The core stuff for a quick weekday trip for a round of three of trap:

hearing protection
eye protection
shell pouch or shooting vest
bag for hulls
boxes of shells

The full shebang for a long weekend afternoon of shotgunning, pistol, and rifle shooting:

-hearing protection
-eye protection
-spare hearing protection
-shell pouch or shooting vest
-bags for hulls
-boxes of shells
-baby bottle full of .22 golden bullets (hey, the box is a terribly way to store it. One bad move and it's everywhere. The baby bottle works great.)
-Ammo (good .22 boxes, 9 mm., 7.62x54r; this goes in the bag; if it doesn't fit, I'm bringing more than I can afford to shoot in one day!)
-mags
-stripper clips
-staple gun for targets
-water
-eye drops (contact lens wearer; enough trapshooting is a challenge for those. But the extra peripheral vision is great for shooting.)
-small screwdriver
-old dish-towel
-small squeeze bottle of CLP
-pen and note book (sometimes, if I am in the mood for tracking my trap scores)
-range key/membership card with gate code
-choke tubes and wrench. Haven't touch 'em in so long I forgot they were there 'til I saw it in someone else's list.

First aid kit lives in the car. Haven't left the car at home yet. ;)

I keep all this in an old flight bag that I had lying around from when I was learning to fly (we were encouraged to always keep all our stuff with us by the head CFI). People ask me where I got my nice shooting bag, I just say the range has a nice selection of bags. Though I did have one person that asked me if I was a pilot because he recognized it as a flight bag sold at a pilot shop.

I have one of the free S&W range bags they gave away with the M&Ps awhile back. I typically carry a couple packages of disposable ear plugs, two pairs of muffs, two pairs of shooting glasses, a staple gun, extra magazines, ammo for whatever I'm shooting, a couple small screwdrivers, range badge and some targets.

My 9 year-old daughter has her own range bag with plugs, muffs, shooting glasses, sand bags, spotting scope and ammo. She typically shoots seated at the bench with her rifle resting on a bag.

I usually bring a bag and a box to the range. The range box is about the size of a medium sized tackle box. It is made by some gun accessories company whose name I cannot recall right now. It has some small compartments on the outside of the top lid, and inner tray, and an open box area under the tray. In the box I usually have:

Universal cleaning kit (rod style)

Cleaning patches

Small bottle of Hoppes #9

Small bottle of Breakfree CLP

Magazines for my .22s (I keep em in the box nbecause the 22s have cable locks through their actions, and I always know where they are)

Multiple head screwdriver

Small hammer

Chokes for my shotgun

Heavy Duty Stapler for targets

Staples

Shooting ear muffs

Ear Plugs

Shooting glasses

Choke wrench

Keys for my gunlocks

Some ammo of various types, usually some .22LR, some 7.62x39, and some 9mm

Stick on Target Centers (the type that show green when hit)

A folding knife

I usually also carry a small military surplus tool(?) bag. In it I carry:

Ammunition for whatever I am shooting that day

Extra ear muffs over its strap

Extra glasses in the outside pockets

Ear plugs

My stapler if I took it out of the range box

Extra Staples

Binoculars (no I don't have a spotting scope, but they do okay)

All in all that stuff, along with my firearms, usually gets me through any day at the range.

Al the best,
Glenn B
