I've run across a thread here or there where people have stated that they've paid ridiculous sums of money for ammo over the past few years.
Probably the worst was a guy who paid $80 for a box of 30-30 and was apparently glad to have it. I audibly gasped when I read how much he paid. I was somewhat blindsided by the shortage, but I was certainly in good enough shape to not have to pay five times the price for a box of hunting ammo.
I bought a couple boxes of Winchester Power-Points in .308 for $25 a box around the end of 2020. I believe they were going for $18-$20 pre-pandemic. Considering they cost about $30 a box nowadays I don't think I did too badly.
I also paid $6 each for 50 round boxes of CCI Standard when rimfire was non-existent. Not a whole lot of money total, but still nearly double what it used to be. I only bought a few so it didn't sting that badly.
Edited to clarify title and to add reloading components to the question.
