What's the word on Remington's R-25 Rifle?

I would love to have one in .308. They should be pretty close to bushmaster since they are both now owned by the same company.

It is NOT a bushmaster AR-10, the BM 308 project was scrapped, and Rock River is now making 308 auto loaders using Fal mags. Bushmaster later bought Cobb, and is now selling the Cobb version of the 308 AR.

Remember that Cerberus Capitol owns Remington, Bushmaster and DPMS. The new R-25 rifle is just the DPMS LR-308 line of rifles in Real Tree Camo. And DPMS sells both the 260 rem and the new 6.5 Creedmoore.

I liked what the accurateshooter.com daily bulletin said about them

The Remington R-25 is priced at $1532 MSRP, and the first units are expected to ship in July 2008. At first blush, the price seems high for a pretty average rifle with a heavy trigger and what, we predict, is a mediocre barrel. Shooters wanting a .308 cartridge-size semi-auto platform for a cross the course rifle or space gun should consider other, less expensive sources such as Armalite for a separate AR-10 lower. Match AR-10 uppers are available from a variety of boutique makers such as Fulton Armory.

Nothing magic about stamping the Remington name on someone else's product.

I have just recently purchest a R-25 .308 for myself. Thing is when I went to have a scope mounted on it this morning, they couldn't get it to line up. It was if the rail was bent. Now the gun shop is going to talk to his remington rep on monday. But I was woundering if anyone else has had this simular issue on one they have bought.

I bought one about a 2 weeks ago and have had nothing but luck with it. i'd have posted a range report already, but am working on getting a camera.

My scope mounted on just fine, and it shoots great using factory ammo (3 rounds covered by a dime at 75 yrds). I was only intending to sight it in; however, that accuracy proved mighty nice.

My only complaint with it is, it doesn't seem to like berdan primed ammo. Because these primers are pretty damn hard, most of the time i had to hit each primer twice in order to me them fire. I certainly like mine, and if any one else has any feedback on them, i'd love to hear it too. thanks!

I believe it is actually a DPMS (one of the Remington family of firearms makers) LR-308 with the Remington name instead of DPMS Panther.

Ain't it amazing how changing the name of something can fetch a few hundred dollars more on the price tag?

The Remington AR15 is made by Bushmaster.

^^ Yes DPMS is under the same umbrella corp as Remington and Bushmaster. DPMS does build the R-25 and the R-15 is bult by Bushmaster.

DPMS rifles have always been known for extreamly good accuracy and dependable rifles offering one of the best values. I own three DPMS rifles! The latest addition:

Personally I don't know if the rail is bent, but the person that was installing the scope couldn't get it to sight in with a bore site. He stated that when it was 1st installed it was 40" to the right. and after adjusting the scope all the way to the left it was still out about 20". Now i guess what i should be asking is what kind of mounts should i be looking for for it. I'm putting on (temp one for now) a 4x12x40 and he was using weaver extra high mounts. What would anyone suggest for a mount to adjust that scope. (this dealer doesn't normally deal with these style guns and I personally am just realling getting into more serious shooting and collecting.)

On a side note, shooting the R-25 just randomly into a dirt hill it was a great gun. hardly any recoil and very smooth. I can't wait to get it scope and out to a real range for some more shooting.

R25=DPMS
R15=Bushmaster

Those Weaver rings won't be high enough---trust me.

I now have Warne ultra-high QD aluminium rings on mine now--$50.

NEVER let a gunshop monkey mount your scopes----do it yourself so you know its done right.

Skip the boresighter ---set up a target at 25yds and start shootin and adjustin.

I've got the DPMS LR-308, which is what the R-25 is. I have nothing but love for mine.

I was able to print a .38" 5 shot group at 100 yards last week using the stock trigger. That was HARD. The trigger is horrible and it took a lot of work on my part.

As soon as I am able, I plan on swapping it out for a Giseille DMR.

As for the bent rail.... I think your guy is doing it wrong. I can't image a bent rail being the case. I have, however, put rings on mine where they were not seated properly on the rail. You'll know it if you don't put them on right.

Right now, I have my Mark 4 sitting in a cheap one-piece CAA mount and I had it seated wrong the first time I put it on. A little care on my part, and it is shooting fine. Check to make sure you have it on properly.

Finally got mine to the range today. It was about 35 degrees out, and raining an ice/snow/slush mixture. I had two types of .308 with me, some Lithuanian surplus (2003) and some Federal XM762D. After about 20 rounds, I started to have light strike issues. At one point for about 10 straight rounds I had to put each round back through a second time, and it would fire on the second attempt. Then it slowly worked itself out. By the end it was running fine.

I've never had a gun "painted" like this before. The first time I went to disassemble it, it took a punch and a tap with a mallet to get the pins out. By the 6th or 7th time, I could push them out with an empty .223 shell. Since its "primed" (white, you can see the over-spray) and then the camo is applied, it seems at least as thick as any Duracoat finish.

The trigger has a lot of travel, but its smooth and light enough. It weighs about 8.75lbs., but feels balanced enough (without the bipod and with the 5-round mag) to be a reasonable hunting rifle.

Nice, I looked at an R-25 in 243 I would have bought it but wanted 308. Found the AP4 and love it.

What kind of groups did it shoot?

I was shooting from a bipod and off my shoulder, not on bags and a rest, and I was using commercial and milsurp ammo. So the results are limited by a lot of factors (not to mention my lack of skill/practice) that have nothing to do with the rifle. The targets at the range I go to have a two inch inner circle, when I can keep my three shot groups in there @100 yards, I'm happy -- and this rifle can easily do that.

From another angle, I had pretty much the same results with the R-25 as I had with my 700 LTR, shooting them side by side with the same ammo. That is high praise for the R-25, and I think it gives a more useful perspective than the actual group sizes I was able to obtain with it. It's on a par with high quality bolt action rifles.

Remington"s R-25

I purchased the R-25 and added the G-27 grip and a 4x16x40 scope and took it out for a test drive, after boarsighting it all. drilled the first three shot within half dollar circle made some adjustments and was drilling the bullseye. I have always been a traditional rifle deer hunter, and thought I'd get myself a retirement present after serving 22 years in the army. And WOW was I shocked this rifle is Awsome. I posted a few pic's. picked it up for $1350.00 brand new. Now the deer dont have a chance. If your thinking about getting one...GET IT!! made by DPMS with Remingtom stamped on it....Awsome!! 0606001813.jpg

I just picked up the R-25 for 1299$, I plan of getting a scope tomorrow and range time next week. My plan is to go hunting upstate NY in a couple weeks and wanted something to hold the Bears down if they had the idea of assualting my camp.. As for the choice of rifles as I am a vet I wanted a rifle I know like the back of my hand in a caliber that is a proven stopper.

The R-25's have been doing great for us, no returns or complaints, and they shoot fairly well also, well with ammo the rifle likes, if it doesn't like the ammo, you'll think your shooting a shotgun!

But, nothing but good words for the R-25's right now, this may change though, so it is best to see how a particular rifle is fairing at the time you intend to purchase.
