Good luck finding ammo.

The guns are cheap, but servicable. They're not a modern day Bryco or Jennings, in so much that they're about 95% reliable and have excellent customer service.

They are big, heavy, and ugly. But they go bang most of the time, which is what their supposed to do. Also, they are made in America. Horray.

Cheap and always go bang. I tried out a 9mm and a .45 at the range before. Good if you're on a budget (although I would still prefer a 1911).

if you need it to save your life and it does then it's worth a life. if you never need it (hopefully you don't) then its worth $175. if it were my only option, I would take it :). since it isn't my only option, I will have too pass:neener:

I didn't vote because I've never owned one. I don't intend to ever own one because I can afford better.

If I could not afford better, however, I would certainly rather have a Hi-Point than nothing.

Most people who actually use them seem to think they work just fine. Not pretty, not elegant, but they work.

Again, I have zero first hand knowledge.

Only problem I ever had with my Hi-point 9mm carbine was using aftermarket mags. It only liked factory mags. Haven't had a problem since. Very reliable, accurate, and fun gun. Definatly get an aftermarket stock for it. Their handguns used to only cost $100 - $125. A lot of people who dislike Hi-point dont like the "look" or "feel" of the gun and sorely misjudge them. I'll probably end up buying another one in the future.

Not the most AP {Aesthetically Pleasing} firearms out there (read as pig-butt-stuck-in-a-mud-fence-ugly) but they go Bang! on request every time, and put the lead where you aim, or Hi-Point fixes it, free.

For sub-$250 carbines and sub-$200 handguns, what more can you ask?

I have had a couple...and I have heard their customer service is great, but I never had to use it, because they were very reliable. Just not ergonomic. and yea uglier than sin. To me they look like a glock and a desert eagle had an illegitamte child. was able to afford better later, and they got passed on to others that needed them. I still kinda miss the carbine.

Ya wanna free one???

Get yerself a good metal detector and a LOT of water (it's getting hot here) and head out to the vast Sonoran desert in the area around Apache Junction Arizona.

Mine's buried out there...somewhere...but, it's been about 12 years and I'm not exactly sure where I stuffed the thing!!

Went desert shooting with the beast, in the early nineties, and put the bugger into the ground after the second slamfire!!

At the time, I only paid $100 on sale, the stipulation was no returns, and I couldn't see spending any more money to ship it back!! Sooooo, into the ground it went!!

By the way, the last time I saw it it was about five feet under. ;)

I had a C9 that was 100% reliable and accurate which kinda surprised me for the price. Yeah, I said 100% reliable which I didn't think was possible with a bottom feeder. I added a grip sleeve which it needed but it jusn't wasn't lefty friendly. Ejecting the mag on the line is kinda embarassing:fire: but that wasn't the firearms fault. Other than that it was everything they market it for. X

I gave my dad some grief when he bought one but had to eat my words after our first shooting session with it. Two boxes of ammo from a new .40 cal and not one jam. Ugly and too bulky for concealed carry, but accurate and reliable so far.

It's cheapo looking and ugly.

Great customer service?? How do people know this? Because I've had springfields and Sigs for years and never NEEDED to contact customer service.....

I woul get one if I were on a severe budget...With ammo costing as much as they do these days, why not pay extra few hundred $$$ and get a real gun? Gun itself is not the most expensive part of this hobby (usually for handguns that get shot a lot) anymore.....that's how I think of it anyway.

I've never had to send but one gun back for service and that was a Ruger. They fixed it. Other than that one, how do I "know" any company has good customer service? Because I rely on the word of others. Any company that makes things probably has to fix one once in a while, even Sig and Springfield.

I've never had to send my Hi-Point back for service. It works just fine.

I bought a C9 over two years ago just to play with. I didn't expect much and figured I could always trade it. I was plesantlyy suprised. Sure, it's ugly but so is a Glock and most of the other plastic guns. Putting looks aside, it was suprisingly accurate. The grips were slick and the trigger was very heavy. I stippled the grips and did a little trigger work which inproved things a bunch. It never missed a beat. It shot every round I ever loaded in it, no matter the brand or cost and most of it was cheap ammo for plinking. I traded it last week just to play with something different. Gunshop guy gave me back all but four dollars of what I paid him for it originally. I was back in the store three days later and it was gone.

Had a C9

Wish I kept it. It was ugly. It was big for its capacity. It was a bitch to teardown. No FTF. No FTE. Even with over 2,000 rounds of Wolf. Even semi-accurate. Perfect car gun. Go ahead and get one. When you get more money, buy something better. And I mean that as in something easier to carry if you so desire. My CZ75 Compact is smaller. And that is not considered a small carry. But don't get rid of the Hi-Point. Keep it as a car gun or something hidden away in the home as a quick grab. I'm sorry I ditched mine.

I look at guns differently than some folks. I have high-end guns, and I have low-end guns. I don't use 'em for competition or combat, I use 'em for fun and CCW.

I bought a HP .40 carbine for a fun plinker, and although cheap and ugly, it's very reliable and deadly accurate. So much so, I had to buy my grandson his own 9mm carbine to get him to let go of my .40! Those two carbines are the most FUN guns I own, and that's what we go shooting for, to have FUN!

I don't keep the .40 loaded for home defense, I keep a 1911 ready for that mission, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to use it for that. It's light, quick handling, goes BANG everytime, and hits where it's aimed.

No experience with their pistols.

seeing as the last high point I saw was sent back to high point for repair.... Lifetime warranty covered the parts and not the labor, when all was said and done, the gun ( $85 dollars new) cost $75 dollars to get fixed.... UNDER A LIFETIME WARRANTY... NO THANKS!!!

It's a cheap but functional gun, without pretentions to greatness like other cheap guns which rhyme with "clock." For that reason I like to play devil's advocate when it comes to Hi-Points, whose styling and ergonomics have come a long way over the years -- except for that chintzy chrome grip screw. I would't own one if I could afford a used Smith Model 10 or Beretta 92FS, and almost anyone can. But I don't sneer at them. It is what it is.

Cheap, made from carberator metal, heavy and ugly. Suprisingly accurate and realiable. I would suggest this firearm to anyone who wants a cheap reliable handgun for home defense or just target practice. Might I also state for the record A Liftime Warranty no matter which owner you are. Now thats a company that stands buy they're product. I would buy one just to help out a company like Hi point.

Save your money

A Hi-Point will work. Just don't go shooting "hot" ammo out of it. The life you save might be your own. They are just a cheaply made firearm that works, but isn't gonna win any awards. And it'll certainly get those looks that nobody likes at the range. Save your money and buy something that made to higher SAAMI standards and has more quality and workmanship in its production. But in a jam, it'll work. Lets just hope you never find that spot between the rock and a hard place

They've sure got plenty of ugly to go around. I've shot the .40 carbine Hi-Point, seems to shoot well.
