Im looking for some ideas, i was thinking win 231 but after reading alot on here im wondering what you use with this specific bullet weight to get the min on 850 fps (to be safe 900fps) for idpa/uspsc min PF

im using a Glock 34 just fyi

titegroup seems to be pretty popular as well...

thanks

3.7gr N320
147gr Montana Gold
1.125 OAL

TG is OK but leaves the barrel with a coating that can be hard to clean. N320 is the cleanest and softest 9mm Minor powder available. It's also a bit quieter by a few decibels.

I second the N320,more pricy but worth it for me in smooth shooting and clean guns.AA #2 or #5 would be good choices also.

Several IDPA folks including my wife and I use Precision Delta 147 gr. FMJ with 3.4 gr of Tightgroup for accuracy. This is around 910fps with a Glock 19 and around 925 fps with a XD(m) 3.8.

This is also a very accurate load with a few other 9mm pistols we have, but have yet to chrono them.

Good luck on your quest.

ok, i got everything figured out,

tite group, MBC 147gr, Federal primers... what is your OAL for set up?

im going to order a lone wolf barrel for my G34 when they get in stock, how much faster should i expect out of the inch or so longer barrel?

planning on starting starting with 3.2 or 3.3 gr, but havent got the manuals or press yet to say for sure... the manual i do have doesnt list the .356 diameter lead 147gr flat points

I would skip the Lone Wolf barrel and get a KKM Precision barrel instead. Much better quality than the Lone Wolf. Cry once and buy quality the first time.

I shot N320 and Ramshot Competition back to back for a day (several hundred rounds over the chrono) and concluded Competition was a ever so slightly better load. I've passed this load on to a few shooting buddies and they have confirmed my findings.

147 MGB, Fed (or CCI) SPP, 3.2 Ramshot Competition 1.14OAL

HS6 is quite flexable in that respect, but there are plenty of choices to fill the bill. Personally, I don't lke 231 at all, but that's me.

titegroup seems to be pretty popular as well...

A lot of competitors like it.
It has a narrow range of load data. It IS dirty and it burns hot.
It is often available locally and not expensive.
MANY competitors think there are better powders.

Out of all the minor loads I have come across, nothing feels softer than 3.1 of VV N310 and a plated 147 @ 1.160"

Most of my buddies use Titegroup; I use HS6 because it is what I had on hand when I started loading for competition and have just never switched yet to date.

What I have noted about HS6 (I use 4.7gr in the summer and 4.8gr in the winter):

-Probably because it is a heavier charge weight, the velocity can be more finely tuned and exhibits lesser extreme spread, since each tenth of a grain accounts for a smaller percentage of the total velocity vs. a fast powder like Titegroup.

-I suspect it is better optimized powder for higher pressure loads, and that it is not really burning fully in minor loads, leading to a dirty gun. My buddy and I shot our G34s for ~500rds each in a class one time not long ago, and directly comparing them afterward, his (with Titegroup) had the slide move just as freely as mine does when it is clean. Mine was notably sluggish, and I start to get occassional short strokes at that round count until I clean it.

-I have never shot a minor load that feels softer than my HS6 load.

From what I can see Titegroup is slightly snappier, much cleaner burning, and slightly more economical than HS6.

I am actually getting ready to do some load testing with Titegroup since I'm getting ready to try out a different gun anyway.

Please read your reloading manual because i think this load have been deleted for the new editions ...

Win 231 : 3.4 grs
"Stopping power" small pistol primers (wolf)
150 grs TC plated bullet
28.7 mm long
any brand of cases ... It gives me 900fps from my bro´s tanfoglio P19 (4" barrel)

it kick so less that you can feel the slide hitting the frame :O

I DIDNT GET ANY PRESSURE SIGNS AFTER SHOOTING +3000 rounds

Hope this helps and excuse my poor english.

shoot straight! :)

-I have never shot a minor load that feels softer than my HS6 load.

I HS6 and HS7 are two of the many powders I have tried, if you are going to try something different give the one I posted in #12 a try, VV powders are the cleanist around.

I do use titegroup as my #2 minor load when loading for subguns to save a little money.

I am loading the 147 gr Hornady RNBT (I stock up every time they have a "blem" sale.) at 1.45" with 3.7 gr of HP38 for my Colt 1991A1 ESP. Also a 135 gr Billy Bullet (moly coated lead) with 3.8 gr HP38. Almost the same powder charge for the same power factor because the lighter slick coated bullet gets out the barrel faster.

I would (do) save my money on an aftermarket barrel. I think the stock barrels are accurate enough for IDPA and IPSC.

I use either 4.0 gr. WSF or 3.5 gr. Bullseye with a 147 gr. FMJ for 890-910 fps - depending on the day it's measured.
