another vote for the CCI MiniMags....accurate and reasonably priced.

i have Stingers but they dont group well from my 4" wheely.

another favorite of mine is the Remington Yellow Jacket.....not always easy to find, but costs less the CCI's and perform great from my guns.

My favorite choice for varmints in 22lr is CCI's Quik Shox. It is the same velocity and grain weight of bullet, except the bullet fragments into 3 pieces upon impact. It is the only load that consistently anchors pdogs with body shots out of my .22 The Aguila Super Maximum, and the Stinger are close seconds, but the Quik Shox load is the ticket.

Just get as many different brands and types as you can. You will probably find a paticular round that your gun loves. Hopefully it will be the cheaper stuff, but not likely. I've been shooting the bulk federal plated h/p. It's decent, goes bang every time. Try and get your hands on some of the foreign stuff. The europeans are very finickey about their .22's and their ammo reflects it. Stay away from the remington. Their famous golden bullet has been garbage since I was a kid. I'm 55 now.

For varmints, I wouldn't have any problem with SGB (they named them Small Game Bullet for a reason), Quik-Shok (pre-frag'd and does pretty good when it hits), or CCI Stinger. Depends on the range too, though. At many yards, I'd want a hot match target ammo rather then a really hot game bullet. The really hot bullet does no good if it misses, despite its features.
