Just wondering what kinda powder u liked in your 223 AR? I have some Win748 and IMR 3031 but have never loaded for an AR.

H335 for loading large numbers of cases. For special use ammo, other powers are required. I always have H335, Benchmark, Varget and IMR4895 in my stash.

Ramshot tac

(same as Western Powder?) 24.5 under 55 gr fmj. economical. accurate. just for plinking. H322 for bolt action

I use H-335 and WC-844, the H-335 pull down equivelent. My second choice would be W-748. Those are for 55 and 62 grain bullets.

W-748 since I started loading .223 in 1970.
Almost 42 years later, I have never found a need to look for another powder.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it, I always say.

For accuracy in the AR, Reloader 7 is doing well and I just fired a few groups with the new Hodgon's powder CFE223, shows excellent promise but need more testing.
In all I've used h322, h335,h4895,Blc2,V133, Varget and Benchmark honestly with the 223 difficult to find a bad powder.:D

+1 Ramshot TAC

I like 24Gr under the Sierra 65Gr SPBT. This is Sierra's best game bullet according to many. It's always sold out when I go to stock up.

I did buy a pound of Hodgdon's CFE 223 to try. Ramshot shows a heavy load of TAC that's faster than CFE 223 but the CFE .223 is supposed to get the 150Gr .308 up to 3,000fps or so. I want to see if it really reduces copper fouling and ups the .308 to 30-06 speeds.

I've always wanted a miracle powder that upped velocities, reduced recoil and cleaned my gun at the same time. Maybe CFE .223 is the one I've been waiting for.

Merry Christmas everyone.

Currently I use AA2230 with 55 FMJs for blasting ammunition and Varget for Service Rifle match ammunition.

I have used W748.

I want to try the new CFE 223 in 17 Rem, 204 Ruger and 223 Remington.

Winchester 748 behind a 55 gr. SP works nicely and meters very well through my 550b powder thrower.

Benchmark. Great powder, easy metering, very accurate results. I prefer single base powders; they burn cooler, are less temperature sensitive, and they last longer (in storage conditions.)

0.75" groups for 5 shots at 100 yards out of my 1-9 twist .223 AR.

I have used Win748 in the past and just this year tried my first loads using AA2230. I like the AA so far, but I have only done 10 rounds with it.

Varget
26.0 gr under a 55 gr FMJ.
I use a Nosler BT w/ that charge and it's hard to beat! Good velocity and good accuracy.

Every loading room needs a can or two of IMR4895.

Edit: Thanks Waywatcher.

MtnCreek, FYI: the load you listed is 1.0 grains above Nosler's MAX for that combination. (!)

I'm newbie 223 reloader. I've been using H335 for anything less than 62gr. I've had excellent results with Noslers 60gr BTBT and H335 out of my DPMS 24" 1-8. I've been able to get consistent 1/3 to 1/2 MOA groups (more an issue with the shooter and not the bullet/powder combo).

I've had good results with Varget and the heavier bullets. I've tried the 69gr SMK and the 75gr Hornady HPBT.

I've heard lots of good things and IMR 8208 XBR and the heavier bullets. I've got a pound, but need to get some loads made to try it out.

My "AR Powder" is AA2230. Started using it when H335 got scarce and 8# jugs of AA2230 were less than $100 and the shelves were full of it.

It meters great, burns clean, and has always been available. The price has gone up some but I get over 2,000 rounds per 8 pounder. Less than 7 cents per round for powder.
