What's your favorite military surplus rifle?

This is not surplus---it's a Iver Johnson made from surplus parts except the receiver--I replaced a lot of the parts & refinished the stock--It's the kind of rifle that is safer using reduced loads unless you want to lose the slide.
Also have a couple Mosins, sks's & Mausers.............
 
I like the old Mausers. The 96 Swede and some of the 98 types made in the early 1900s, particularly the Argentines made by DWM and the Peruvians made Mauser. They all exhibit workmanship that is not avilable today and there was no computer cranking out the parts.
 
There are many I like, but of the rifles I presently own, it would be my M/N PU sniper. I really like the Garand however.
 
MOSIN NAGANT What's not to love about the cheapest center-fire ammo that can be bought, and a gun that can double as a club, spear, oar, anchor, firewood, baseball bat, spud bar, or hiking stick. A 1939 91/30 is my go-to rifle for bear protection when I am hiking in a area where there are a lot of grizzly bears, i even shot a deer with it this year. The best part about it is that it can be thrown into the trunk and there are no worries about scratching it.
 
Im big on the M44 rifle, its just too much fun to shoot. I would also say that my second favorite, tho I have never shot it (maybe thats why) is the French MAS rifle bolt-action configuration. that gun has always looked badass to me.
 
#1 favorite would be the No4 Lee Enfield, well over a dozen of them now and still going.
#2 would be M1A's
#3 Swiss K-31's, bought my first one last year and have been impressed with the quality of this rifle.

Beyond a shadow of a doubt it has to be the Swedish Model 38 in 6.5 X 55. Well made, great round - useful for modern applications.

1. Swede Mausers, m/96, m/38 and m/94 s
2. 1903 Springfields, late Rock Island arsenal
3. 1903A3s (the Remingtons are better finished than the Smith Coronas)
4. 1917 Enfields (Winchester made turns my crank)
5. Krag rifles, both US and Swedish
 
My two favorites that I don't own at present are the Garand and M-14 in that order. I qualified expert with both of them in the Corps. Plenty of power and firepower, and 500 yds is easy for either one. Even so I love my L/E Jungle carbine that I've owned for 60+:) years and it is surprisingly accurate at 100 yards. I like my AR too, and it is very accurate, but not a surplus since I built it from scratch.
 
My Garand is tied with the Swiss K31 (Noticed someone above called it a Swede K31 ... lol) although the K31 I have kicks like a mule! It beats the Garand by a hair though. No "Garand thumb:. :eek:
 
24/47 Yugo Mauser 8X57 mm..plan to Scout it with a 2.5X30 EER scope..Light little gun nice action Cheap ammo.


Those that live by the sword get shot by those that don't.

have you ever seen a 8mm Lebel rifle, awesome design with its tubular magazine made entirely of wood, what about that stupid machine gun with the cut-out in the magazine

I'm a fan of the SKS, simple, rugged, effective. I like the way it feels and its a really fun range blaster. Its combat accurate and I'll never envision needing more than 10 rounds of 7.62x39 before a reload, short of all out war. Even then, its pretty quick with stripper clips.
