Am I wrong? Are most people's CCW's full size guns? What is your daily CCW?
I don't know about most people, but it isn't unusual for folks to carry full sized guns.
Bear in mind that "Full Sized" has changed a lot over the years. When I started. a 5" 1911 was full sized and a 4.25" Commander was a compact. Nowadays, many people consider a Glock G17 or S&W M&P (both just over 4" barrels) as full sized.
When I was younger (slimmer) I often carried a Colt 1911, SIG 226, or Beretta 92/96 as my off-duty gun...the latter two are a bit harder than the first. It was just a matter of having a good belt and a good holster. I also used to CCW a 4" Colt Python...but not in my pocket.
When I traveled to teach, rather than bring two guns on a plane, I'd just bring a SIG 220ST and CCW it when off the range.
It is important to not scrimp on a holster. Is $150 too much when you've just spent $700-$1000 on a gun?

I can't imagine having a $800-1500 gun and throwing it in and out of a holster daily.
I think the last 1911 carried concealed was worth more than twice your upper limit. I also shot it in a IDPA match, so I'm dragging it in and out of both leather and kydex holsters as well as banging it into things.
You should carry, whichever gun you shoot the best. I don't think you'll hear too many people say, "Maybe I don't need a gun that is too accurate today", when selecting which gun to CCW
