Fun Day.

Definitely a day of celebration. It is a day for recognizing the contributions and sacrifices made by our Service Men and Women. I choose to remember why I have what I have. A lot of good people died in defending my rights and I celebrate the fact that many of those brave people volunteered to die for this country. My father was in WWII and is alive today. My uncle died in Vietnam. Should we mourn his death and ignore the ones that lived?
I don't think it's necessarily a day of mourning or of celebration. It's a day of remembrance -- but it's not my place to judge how you do that. Hopefully we don't ignore the ones that lived, this just isn't their day. The other 364 are -- Veterans Day in particular, and Armed Forces Day for those still serving.

My personal round count? "0"

However I was present for what in my mind was the most important round count by 4 members of our local Honor Guard and the three shot volley fired to the East at the close of the ceremony at our local War Memorial.

Those 12 rounds were by far the most important round count for me, should have been for anyone here in the U.S.A.

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."

George S. Patton

I never got to the range, but I spent some time at the bench. Built about 100 rounds, some of which would work in a U.S. military weapon today, and some of which would have worked in the 19th century.

That and my annual showing of Saving Private Ryan were my tribute for the day.

Not directly related to my round count, but here's what my response was to several Memorial Day posts on Facebook:

"I won't thank you vets for your service. You had a job that you were called to do, either by your SS number or your conscience. You did that job very well. Those who never were called to serve owe a debt, those of us that ended up PDQ @ MEPS thank you for filling the hole that our inability to serve left behind. While I do not thank you for your service, I do thank you for picking up the slack I or folks like me left for you. You did the job asked of you to the best of your abilities which far outstripped the bar set by the DoD. For those reasons I celebrate you on this Memorial Day and every other day as you have earned it. The world at large is a better place for folks such as yourselves having been in it even if for less than two decades."

We get together every memorial day and cook fish and drink beer and in our own way, we mourn or talk about the buds that didn't come home and make jokes about the one's that did. All of us are ex- military and active military and Federal agency's of different branches.
Memorial day is very special to us and should be to any normal veteran.:(

Well that was different.

Thank you for the thoughts, I guess?

I served with a fellow that was PDQ, in his case he served as a cilivian, I was stationed at the Pentagon.

Guess we better get back to the round count.

Helped out with a pre- Appleseed shoot on Sunday so I didn't get to shoot until afterwards. Got 100 or so Aguila Interceptors (22LR) from 150 yards at the range and then played with a 100 or so 22LR tracers after dark at home.

Lead Downrange Memorial Day Weekend

A friend and I went to the range Sunday and put a fair amount of lead down range, 30 rounds 30-06, 150 rounds 223, 150 rounds 40 S&W, 50 rounds 9mm, 200 rounds 22lr, 40 rounds 22 magnum. 50 rounds of 17 HMR. All the centerfire with the exception of 9mm were all my reloads. My reloads are getting better all the time, made real progress with the 223 and accuracy running them through 223 Ruger mod.77 mark 2 with 26 inch bull barrel. Also have the 30-06 round just like I want for deer season coming up, 150 grain Hornady Interlock. The 223 through the Ruger are grouping at an inch and a half at 200 yards, may do better with less wind. We were at a range in Florida and dealing with the winds associated with the tropical depression, the winds buffeted the 17 HMR enough that the best group was an inch and a half at 100 yards, the 17 HMR was bull barreled Marlin that will repeatedly group at one half inch at 100 with these old eyes. Bottom line had a lot of fun, I personally would love to spend every day at the range but that is a bit impractical!! I just hope everybody had a great weekend!! Most of all I want to thank each and every man and woman in the military past or present for MY FREEDOM and ABILITY to OWN AND FIRE these weapons, THESE MILITARY MEN AND WOMEN and THEIR FAMILIES have PAID FOR MY RIGHTS TO ENJOY THIS PASTIME!!!!

I do not know. I never count them, but we shot a lot.

I was most satisfied with a deed we did for an old handicap gentleman. He had a very dated and weathered .22 rifle. It was one of those Stevens/Savage 87 rifles made for Sears, and it was in bad shape. Dad and I went to visit him and retrieved the gun for some work. We stripped it down, cleaned and lubed it for a test run; but no go, it didn't work. However, after some tweaking to the action, we got that thing running like a waterfall. Sweet little shooter too!

Went fri am it was 1911 day, plus a glock 30sf
.300rds plus 50 rds of WWC 67 ball ammo, the year i qualified on the 45 in Nam. Been carrying one since. Have to look for more ball ammo as my stash is getting low. Hope everyone had a safe and happy HOLIDAY !

100 rounds each through the G19 and G26, 50 through the SR9c, 50 through the SP101, and 20 through the P22. I planned on more through the .22, but I could not talk my 11 year old daughter into shooting it. It was her first trip to the range with me, and she was only interested in using the binoculars to tell me when I was missing the targets!:)

Update:
I Shot off another 150 rounds of .22 LR, 50 rounds of .380 though my new P3AT, 50 rounds through my new to me Colt Detective Special and finished off with 200 rounds through my S&W revolver and 1911's. Overall it was a great weekend.

Hit the range Saturday. 70 rounds of .38 SPL through the SP101 and 58 rounds of 9mm through the Sig. Sucks being low on range ammo!

Went on Monday morning, I only shot 42 rounds of 7.62x39mm through the CZ 527M, but the young lady I was helping went through about 200 .22lr in the P-01/Kadet Kit.:)

I tried shooting iron sights from field positions, discovered I need work.

I shot prairie dogs over the weekend in Western Kansas. Between my brother and I we shot about 150 rounds of .223 and 350 rounds of .17 HMR. Great time!! Can't wait to go again.

I had a pile of processed brass just sitting around so I RELOADED some instead of shooting any.:D

500 223 with 55gr FMJ
250 38 SPL SWC
50 500 S&W with 350gr JSP
250 308 168gr JHP match rounds
Just gettin ready for a large range session at a friends private range with our usual group over the 4th. I will be loading a bunch of blasting ammo for everybody to use in my handguns then. When we run out of ammo the ribs, lobsters, corn and chili should just be ready.:D

Well, I made it through the weekend without spending one cent on ammunition fired!

Any ammo that is not fired is just that much more to shoot later!
