Does anyone know what year Glock first added finger grooves to the frontstrap of their guns? And what year they came out with the picatiny light rail? I can't find this info anywhere. I'd really like to know if it's stated anywhere.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows!

With the exception of a few models, Generation 3 Glocks introduced them to the full line:

I believed he asked "What year" those features were introduced. Not "What generation". I tried looking, too but couldn't find anything.

I dug a little bit deeper (page 5 of a Google search, who goes that far?) and I found the info.
1988 - Grenade front and backstraps
1996 - Finger Grooves
1998 - Finger Grooves and Rail

Which points to previously being four generations, not three, of Glocks
The finger groove no rail guns are extrmely rare and only found on G22/G23 pistols.

The fifth generation called the fourth generation are the SF "slim frame" large frame/large caliber pistols.

Even Glock doesn't actually recognize the finger groove no rail guns as a generation though, they consider them to be 'transitional models."

Glocks don't use a picatinny rail. AFAIK, they make/made just one version of the early 21SF with picatinny rail for consideration of a government contract. The vast majority of 21SF's have the normal Glock proprietary rail.

I have one of these picatinny versions, and 2 years later I still can't buy an off the shelf holster for it. Well, maybe it'll be become a sought after collector piece in another 10 years. If only Chuck Norris would use it in a movie. :)
