When will supply loosen up?

it's my understanding that most companies in the biz are running extra shifts, hiring new labor, maxing out what they can make on existing equipment. I read during shot show that several AR makers had been in the process of expanding capacity, but many have halted those plans for now in the event that bad legislation is passed and all the $$ they just spent would be down the tubes.

It seems to me that many people need a lesson in econ 101. It is simple supply and demand. With demand this high it only makes sense for "they" the component suppliers to make as much as they can, as quickly as they can safely do so.

I think that as some on this forum and on others have stated, when the legislation scare simmers down and or credit card statements are seen, people will slow down on hoarding and supplies will begin to show up on shelves again.

I really doubt there is some big conspiracy by the government or component makers. I doubt that government agencies are buying up components or ammo just to take them out of the market as I have herd in some places. I doubt even more that the powder or other component makers are doing this to drive up prices either, other wise the large chain stores like the Sportsman's Warehouse near me would have also raised their prices like many of the smaller shops who don't have as much "other stuff" to sell have had to do.

I dont think for one second its a conspiracy. Its just super high demand. I was just wondering if they are trying to ramp up production.

clap, clap, clap - good answer!

We all need to stop paying double for $30 die sets, powder and ammo, etc and the market will correct itself. And remember the snakes !!

So, if a particular die set that I want is worth $60 to me, I should not buy it so that you can buy it for $30?;)

LOL Don, Alot of people I see are buying supplies and then telling people people the sky is fallen to make a 2x -3x profit. so as some of the retailers. Will go on as long as people feed the fire. :banghead:

Some die sets' MSRP are pushing $60. Should we expect the company to sell at a loss?

An interesting aside, since I started planning for shortages back in 2010, I am now not buying any reloading related stuff until prices and inventories return to sane levels. It is amazing how much extra spending money I have right now.

Gun Show Price

At the gun show this week end a pound - yes a pound - of Hodgdon 4895 sold for $50. A brick of 500 Federal Champion .22 ammo sold for $50 and the guy was happy to pay for it.

Well, good for him. While I personally would not pay that much for either, I certainly won't criticize him. He paid exactly what something was worth to him.

In 2009, supply loosened up about May/June.

I got in on a group buy from Powder Valley in Dec 2008... 15k primers and about 16lbs of powder for me. Powder Valley finally filled the order in May or June of that year.

I am guessing that this will be similar. I would expect the tightness in reloading supplies to ease up around June.

This instance is different from anything in the past. I don't see an end to the lack of loading components, ammo, and AR-AK rifles and parts for more than a year and suspect that it will NEVER be like before. Too many people caught unprepared, hoarding, stocking up for the shooting season, and just trying to get some ammo that it's going to take more than this year to get things caught up. As soon as a vendor has items "in stock" they will quickly sell out and take months to get resupplied. There's no way for bullet companies to catch up with demand from reloaders and ammunition manufacturers. Even myself while having "enough" supplies has me thinking I should buy more to increase my reserve components??

Then there are the ants and the grasshopper. There is also the motto ‘Be Prepared’, Again, there is no shortage around here, I am going to divide up some powder, 16 pounds.

The ants were prepared, I could never see the ants accused of being hoarders, if someone did not put it away when it was there, where would it be now?

+1. The difference between this and other panics is, the regime in power is making an all-out push to enact gun control legislation. Remember in 2008 it was merely the ELECTION of an anti-gun Democrat with no gun control legislation being promised or promoted that caused panic buying of components. Even if the Democrats back off now from the current legislative proposals, the shooting public knows that all it would take is one more national shooting tragedy, and all the legislative proposals and more will return. The only thing that is going to settle things down with a return to supplies being readily available at reasonable prices, is a lessening of the fear that is driving the purchases. And that requires a favorable midterm election in 2014. No, it is not the hoarders or guys who are paying too much for items that are the problem, they are merely the symptoms of the problem. The problem, as with all panic buying, is fear.

Well said ussr. And if 2014 elections go well things will tame down. If the mid term elections go poorly then this will feel like the good old days.

So in the mean time everyone better go out and buy everything they can get their hands on - even if you don't need it, you can trade for what you need. Buy buy buy buy!!!! Hurry before you can't buy anymore.

It's Tuesday and like I said when I picked up my crystal out the repair shop I would give you the answer so here we go April, 1 2014 !! WAH LAH !!
