Where are you finding good in stock ammo these days?

Hey folks, like the title states. Let's help each other (and especially new gun owners who might be caught with zero stock) out and maybe give them some ideas of places to check.

This is not a "sky is falling" complaining freak out thread.

It is in the vein of a similar thread helping folks to find reloading gear in that area of the forum.

To kick things off:

Farm king: I've been finding Georgia arms 9mm 124 gr jhp for 17/50
Also 38 158 gr swc
Seems to have a good stock

Walmart : in my area every Walmart has cci 22lr and many others (555 value packs Winchester etc)
Of course shotgun, rifle

Prices seem reasonable

Gander outdoor has been pretty reliable it varies on when you go, and there are none terribly near to me! Shelves and shelves of 40 sw fmj.

The location in Marion IL had had 45, 357, 38, 410 handgun, 45 colt

Rural king, also usually will have a good variety.

Prices have not reflected the numbers I've seen folks post here.

Anyway. If you're in IL and looking for a caliber I can let you know where I've seen it. Maybe we can get folks posting for different states.

Been using ammoseek.com to find my .22lr match ammo of late.
As to good buys, it's certainly tougher these days. Even the .22 match has gone up in in price...and I remember not long ago that stuff was always in stock and price stable.
Picked up some SK Long Range and SK Biathlon the other day at Good Shooting Sales and Service at what I'd consider decent prices. They ship fast, too.

defjon, you might want to check the Walmart in Sparta, IL, if you ever get over that way.
They did fairly well re resupply back in the last shortage. More than once in that stretch I drove over from Carbondale to help my .22lr stock.
I've heard they move more ammo than any other Walmart, probably because of their numbers during the Grand American.

I haven't been to my local shops lately, just due to time etc. I would expect maybe better availability than the "big boxes" as mentioned above.

But if you're in the Midwest, stores like rural king or farm king ate worth a check.

Happy to update as I'm out and about more.

I've never purchased online, but I suppose if folks find fair deals and want to share that would fit under the umbrella of this thread.

I my neck of the woods (Eau Claire WI) Scheel`s seems to have handgun ammo more often that most places around here.
Yesterday they had quite a bit of 9 mm. I did not buy any.

Mod note: Let's be clear. This is a "Where There Is Ammo" thread, not a "OMG! There's NO Ammo" thread. The idea is that we can help one another here.

I've had the best luck lately with TargetsportsUSA. They have been cycling ammo through pretty good. Fairly good pricing on some stuff, it sells out quick, then something else will pop up after a while.

The big box stores near me are nearly impossible to buy from. Can't get the online checkout done before everything sells out.

I haven't seen any, but then again I'm pretty set so I haven't scoured the earth looking recently.

On a local board, I've seen people saying Academy has ammo, on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, early in the day. I guess this might be tied into deliveries and putting things out on the shelf. If that's true, you might apply the same logic to other bigger chains like Bass Pro or Cabela's; figure out when they get shipments, and when they restock the shelves. I'm hearing that these stores are keeping the prices reasonable, so if you can find things there it would be your best buy.

I know the OP says "in stock", but it would be worth considering a backorder from somewhere like Sportsman's Guide. If you can get something shipped at a reasonable price in 2-3 months, it makes range-time now a bit less painful (you won't be as worried about your own stash thinning out).

7.62x39 Tula (works fine in my imported AKMs, they are high quality): 1,000 rds. in a case. $379.00. This seems to be their minimum quantity.

Found at >> "JGsales" <<. Does this help? I keep track of this distributor, in order to one day spot any gradual, but steady price decreases for the ammo industry overall.

9mm (Luger) ammo -- in the Memphis area -- always seems to be available at >> Classic Arms <<, by Germantown Rd. in Cordova TN.
.22LR was also at Classic Arms. My last visit was about a week ago. Have not been to other gun stores in months.

If in northern Ga adventure outdoors had a bunch of 7.62×39, buck shot, and just about every caliber except 9mm. Even had primers and odd ball powder.

The Rural King here in west central Indiana has done well re .22lr ... mainly Federal and Norma in stock, but occasionally some Aguila, too.
The local Academy has .45 ACP. It gets some 9mm range ammo in every once in a while, but it does move out quickly. I'll give 'em credit, they've reasonably held the line on pricing.

Here in central Montana Scheel's seems to be the best bet, with occasional shipments at somewhat higher (but not insane) prices. Yesterday they had 2 types of 9mm 115 FMJ @ $14.99 and $15.99, and Frontier .223 @ $9.99. Walmart gets a few .22 bulk packs now and then at regular prices but you have to be quick, if you hesitate it will be gone the next day.

LGS (HCO) has some popular ammo, but at a somewhat higher price than Scheel's. Understandable as they have a range to supply.

We have Atwood's farm and ranch store in Missouri. They have ammo in sporatically, it doesn't last long though. Academy gets ammo in at times and so does Dunham's, and they haven't raised their regular prices, but it also goes quickly. There's only one gun store that seems to be able to get ammo in, but even they seem to only be able to get higher priced HP stuff now.
I was able to order from Federal online, back in August. It took 3 weeks to come in. Most of that ammo is listed as unavailable now.

Aim Surplus has Wolf .308 (7.62 NATO) in stock for $11.95 a box of 20, limit 50 boxes. That's not awesome, but it's a few cents lower than what we had been seeing recently.

For those saying "steel-cased crap": the HK/Cetme/PTR roller-delayed rifles feast on that stuff. The violent action beats the heck out of the case, leading to reloading difficulties for lots of people, and the steel case is less prone to "flow" into the flutes and get stuck. I have a cheap Century C308 (the latest Cetme build), and zero problems with steel-cased. A couple stuck rds with brass (Armscor) that I had to pogo-stick out.
Some people might gripe about it being "dirty", or a bit underpowered... the gun's design makes getting dirty unavoidable. And an "underpowered" .308 is still a lot harder hitting than, say, 7.62x39. We're talking 150gr fmj at about 2800 fps.

Plenty of ammo. Just checked ammoseek, Lax ammo has a good deal on 380. Yep, a 1,000 rds PMC for only $900.00. Plenty of 22.cal starting around 12Cents per rd. plus shipping.

I always go here first. Generally I end up at SGAmmo, Freedom Munitions, Georgia Arms, etc

https://ammoseek.com
I'm still finding that if you look for yourself, you find a better deal than by relying on search engines and whatnot.

The Aim Surplus deal on .308 is cheaper than the Ammoseek listings.

I think they may have to subscribe to get listed, or something; but I've been able to land some deals on .223, .308, 7.62x39, and 9mm that never showed up on gundeals, ammoseek, wikiarms, etc. I also bought an AR in the height of the panic surge online for $475, or way under what any of the search engines listed.

Search the internet for STORES, not deals, and then remember those stores and check them yourself, on a regular basis.

Most of our local places are out of the popular selling stuff. 9mm, 380, 223, ect. They are constantly getting it in and selling out quickly. Most have limits and most are trying to hold their regular prices, but the prices are gradually easing up. My buddies just call around a couple of times a week and ask.

Grabbed another Winchester value pack, 333 rounds 15 bucks at ol Wally world.

If 22lr sticks around that's pretty great for keeping folks in practice.

If you know someone who is a first time buyer and panic bought a 9mm and is now scratching their heads with how to feed it, maybe suggest a 22 conversion or a cheaper 22 lr platform.

No substitute for trigger time.
