I swear.....for the past year I've not seen a single box of .45 acp at my local store. Not one. Oh well, that's life.......so I suck it up and just go to a local gunshop or "Dick's" and pay the extra bucks. Now, I realize the ammo is THERE.....just not when I happen to be there.....just a matter of timing.

Yesterday, however was something else. Big suprise! I was'nt even shopping for ammo. Just stopped in to pick up some basic house needs: light bulbs/batteries...etc. I tell myself to not even bother browsing the ammo cabinet because "it" won't even be there. Well I decide what-the-hell....why not?

Shocked. I find an almost FULLY stocked cabinet of not just .45 acp.....but lots of stuff that normally ain't there. A dozen or so boxes of .44 mag (2 brands) .357, etc.
.....and .45 acp? FOUR brands! The most was 20 or 30 boxes of WW 100 round "white box" Several boxes of JHP. Several boxes of a brand I don't remember.
I picked up 2 boxes of 230 g FMJ WW 100 round and 3 boxes of federal 50 round 230 g FMJ.
Spent a lot more than I PLANNED to on this Walmart visit but I figured to "get-while-the-gettin's-good".
I do realize Walmart/ammo threads are kinda redundent.....usually about nearly EMPTY shelves......but I'm wondering if this is a sign of things to come....OR .....Maybe the "hoarders" are finally stocked up?

....Perhaps it was simply a matter of timing.....just my lucky day.

Are other folks seeing more stock in their areas of the country?

Russ

Well.. THIS hoarder hasn't got nearly the .40 S&W I desire on hand.. :D

Prices looking good?

They have Federal .40 for $13.95 and WWB 180gr for $16.95 iirc and WW 100ct for $29.97 iirc.
Some still have the Federal 135gr Hi-Shock for $22.95.
WWB 165gr is $17.95 for some odd reason.
WWB JHP 180gr $27 iirc 50ct.

This is all from memory and may not be found in all Walmarts as i visit at least 3-4 different ones.

I'm used to paying about 14 dollars for a box of shotgun shells.

I was in walmart buying food for a camping trip, and found that they were selling "value packs" - 4 boxes of shells for $20. Needless to say, I added one to the shopping basket.

I went back for another one today.

Oh, BTW I think I should mention this....

I mean no offense in my post by using the word "hoarders"...and I HOPE none was taken.......so IF there are any "hoarders" here......more power to you! I'd be a hoarder too if I could afford to be!

I just don't have a better.....or kinder word to describe those that snatch it all up quick! Who knows? Maybe "hoarders" are a figment of our imagination upon always seeing empty shelves at Walmart.

Anyone ever notice that those who have less ammo than you are unprepared but those who have more ammo than you are hoarders?

I got in 20,000 rounds of 380 and I've sold less than 10% of it. I dont have any idea what is going on.

My Walmart (Orange City, Florida) has at least 100-150 boxes of of the orange/black swiss 9mm 50 rounders. It's been this way well over a month now. Plenty of days I also see Federal bulk .22lr 550 packs by the dozen. Plenty of 40sw/45acp as well, not nearly as much of the 9mm though.

My wife helped me move ammo in my garage and we put it in a new lockable cabinet. To paraphrase a quote from JAWS "YOUR GONNA NEED A BIGGER LOCKER!!"

The Wal-Mart by me has had ammo for a while now 223, 40, 9, etc. However, they have had 45 and 380 on the shelves for the last couple of weeks. And it is not dissappearing within an hour or so, like it used to to. Nice to be able to go back to the counter and pick up just a box and not feel like I have to get all I can at the time.

I hope the folks that have complained about hoarders through this shortage don't get too excited and buy any more ammo than they need for their next range session. :)

My complaint about the folks hoarding is not that it hurts the individual shooters, they could have purchased ammo intime like everyone else. My problem is that it hurt organizations that have shooting programs for the youth like Boy Scouts, 4-H, youth camps, ect., that have had to cut their programs back for lack of ammo. And no then can not just buy ammo like everyone else, they have to purchase as funds are available.

But then I'm from the older generation and still do not believe its all about Me, Me, Me. I try to keep a larger view of everything.

Thank God this current fiasco seems to be just about over.

And if you want to be a hoader, do what I do, and just buy an additional box of whatever you shoot every time you see it on the shelf, and eventually you look in your closet and go, WOW! I won't have to buy ammo for a year if I don't want to!

That's how it goes. Box by box, for a long time I could not go into W-M without buying some type of 22LR, and if it was on sale, motor oil. I also just ran out of motor oil before moving, using up my stockpile over the course of a year.

Remember to treat ammo like groceries or medical supplies: the new and fresh go in back, and use the older first. Most ammo has better shelf life than canned food, but I started "hoarding" when the gun control crowd started talking about banning or taxing ammo in the 1980s.

I actually saw some .380 ACP on the shelves of a local Wal-Mart last month. It wasn't there the following day (thanks in part to my buying a couple of boxes), but it was real and it was (briefly) there.

Carl, that's a good idea about rotating you ammo stock. When I buy .22lr ammo or shotgun shells, I write the date purchased on the box with a Sharpie. I reload everything else I shoot.

There is no such thing as "too much ammo".

Sure it is, the guy shooting at you always has it.:what:

On Topic:
Our local Wally World has been in pretty good shape for a while. They normally have a few boxes of almost everything, but not a lot of anything.

This is what I do too.

The WallyWorlds (2-Belleville, IL) here have finally gotten a lot more ammo in in the last two months, EXCEPT for .38/.357, 9mm, and, to a lesser extent, .25, .32, .380 and .45. They have had a fair supply of the bulk .22's for the last 18 months, but .17 HMR and .22 Mag have also been spotty.

The walmart I work for in Elkton, MD has just got a pretty good stock in. About a month or two back they got a pretty big shipment of most pistol calibers. Last week they got a bunch of .22 and shotgun slugs. Still no .45 though, it tends to disappear off the shelf pretty quick. Thankfully I can just walk over to sporting goods when I'm coming into work and check.

I won't give walmart any of my $$$, but I have noticed prices returning to "normal" on several online sites, as well as more realistic prices at local dealers.

The gun shops around here love Wal-mart,Sears
Walmart don't sell guns or ammo
Sears don't sell no guns or ammo
Monkey Wards long gone outta business

Wally world in my area has soemthing I haven't seen in a wally world in ages: hollowpoints.

Left with a 100-pack of Remington UMC 115gr JHP (may carry ammo of choice) for $24. Yes, it's as cheap as FMJ....if they keep this up, my carry ammo may become my range ammo too....bonus, as this stuff has a milder recoil than the Blazer I usually fire.

There has definitely been an increase in available calibers at Walmart in the last month or so. I even saw boxes of 45LC at one Walmart. Some calibers that they sell still sell out quickly based on my observations, but things are improving significantly if you shot Walmart for ammunition.
