Where Can I Buy Small Quantities of 45/70 Supplies

You don't have to have a lead ball, any lead bullet that is larger than your bore will work. I use a wooden dowel to drive the bullet down the bore. Works great.

Egg shaped lead sinkers work well also. If they are a little undersized just smack them with a hammer to expand them to fit tightly. Same goes for the .459 bullets you have. If they are cast, just tap them a few times with a hammer to bump the dia until it's a tight fit.

These guys sell sample packs, but they only have one bullet for .45-70

I bought from them once or twice a couple of years ago. Nothing bad to report.

This guy has a wide variety of .45-70 bullets offered in packs of 50

Weird that the 300 gr RCBS GC bullet is more expensive than the 405 gr RCBS GC! The caveat with ordering from him is that shipping times can be erratic. I've got an order in a week, or in six weeks, for items that were shown as "in stock" when I ordered. If you're in no real hurry, not a bad choice.

An egg sinker or bullet-shaped sinker is good for slugging your bore. The hole down the middle gives the lead somewhere to go as you compress it into the bore. They should be easy to find wherever fishing tackle is sold.

IIRC, the egg size #7 was about 11.5 mm diameter (good for .429 magnum) so maybe size #8 would work for .458? Take your calipers to the store and measure them right through the plastic bag (and obviously, subtract a measurement of the bag itself if the diameter is really close to the diameter you need). How big is too big I can't remember...sorry. Someone help me out!

Just be sure you get soft lead sinkers. Lead weights have been banned in some places. Other metals are now sold for reduced toxicity. You don't want that for hammering into your rifle!

edit: Oops, I didn't read the last few posts before posting!
