I am looking for a dummy 30mm round used by the apache (30×113), or even the (30x173) used by the A 10. I briefly looked online and saw some for over 100$. This seems extremely expensive. I don't need anything special, even a casing without the bullet would be ok, but not ideal. I would like to pay under 20$.

Good luck. I have seen the A10 30mm rounds from time to time and usually bring around $50 or up. Haven't seen any for a while so I suspect they are pretty scarce.

Fifty U.S. Dollars?! I used to get the 30mm casings off the A-10 for free at the Air Show (R.I.P. 2013)

$50....wish I would have held on to them.

Many years ago when I first became a soldier, my buddy and I watched A-10s practicing strafing runs on a range. The next day we took a CUCV out to where we were sure the runs began in search of spent shell casings. We were very familiar with the range and knew we were in the right spot to find casings. After a fruitless search :confused:we went back to garrison annoyed :mad:we didn't know the range as well as we thought and disappointed to end up empty handed:(. This was pre-internet when information about the A10 was not instantly available. If it had been we would never have wasted our time. The A-10 does not eject spent casings.

The $50 price was for a complete dummy round, and I see CDVS has some very nice dummy rounds for only $90 each. TP are $250 each.

A school buddy (K, elem, HS) helped design the spent case recovery system which is actually just a system to stuff them into plastic links, I believe the same ones the ammo comes loaded on. ( He is one of them there Rambling Wreck Injun Ears) As a former Light weapons Infantryman I was concerned about 30mm shell cases falling and doing 300mph, so I was glad to hear of it. I knew a WWII Navy pilot ( another buddy's dad) that said Marines loved close air support EXEPT when it the aircraft over flew their positions while firing .50s. Another WWII vet claimed his unit on the ground took casualties from falling .50 cases. Having looked at the dummies in question I will say I am glad that my limited experience with A-10s did not involve falling spent cases!

I'd be curious as to the terminal velocity of a .50 case. I would think that it would hurt if it hit bare skin, but not enough to kill anyone. Kind of like the old penny off the empire state building thing.

Don't think it would be enough to kill someone IMHO. But it would sure hurt and leave a good bruise/cut depending on landing position.
