Where do you buy a lot of Ammunition from?

I am looking for a good place to buy around 250 to 1000 rounds of .40 handgun ammunition. Should I try to buy it online or go to my next gun show, and see if i can pick any up there? this will be Practice Ammo.


Thanks for any help you can give me.


Sorry if this is not in the right sub forum, I was not really sure where to post this. So if it is in the wrong place could a MOD please move it for me. : )
 
Wal-Mart has the best prices. I have not found cheaper 9 mm ammo any where else. I assume it's the same case for .40SW.
 
I thought you said a "lot" of ammo. . .
Winchester White Box at wally world comes out ahead for small orders like you are looking for.
 
Online prices look appealing.... till you add shipping! As much as I hate to support the plague against american business, Wal-Mart has the volume buying power and comes out on top again.
 
Wow, I did not even think of WalMart but I will be checking them out monday. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Do you know if you can just buy one big box rounds? or is it 10/20 boxes of 50 rounds and the savings just add up.
 
I buy most of my "blastin'" ammo from Wal-Mart as well. I don't usually buy a lot at one time, however, just what I need for that day's shooting.

If yours has Blazer Brass, that is cheaper than WWB.
 
I don't know what part of the country you are from, but if you have access to an Academy store, their prices are very good. I shoot 9mm's, and buy 1000 rounds at a time of the CCI Blazer aluminum stuff for $6.77 per 50 round box. Not all guns tolerate the aluminum stuff, and I have found the CCI Blazer Brass at Wally World for $1.00 per box more. The .40 will be a little more than the 9mm.
 
Wally World... but a word of caution: The Winchester white box stuff is VERY dirty. It likes to foul my autos -- and I hate to take the cleaning equipment to the range.
 
Farm & Fleet can occasionally beat Wal-Mart on some things, when they go on sale. Plus they have the ammo in the open and you just take it to the register. No need to find a blue-vested minion to open the ammo case for you.
 
Walmart wins...

I've spent too much time looking for cheap 9mm to shoot, and Walmart always comes out on top. $15.47 for 100 rounds of WWB. Add tax (6%) and you're getting a case for $163.99. The closest I've seen to that is a seller on Gunbroker, who'll do a case of Blazer Brass for $172.00.
 
Buy ammo?

From AIM Surplus, Cheaper than Dirt, Natchez Shooter's Supply, Southern Ammo, Collector Rifle, etc. Good results and customer service were received at all. I've also bought from Ammoman, with okay service, but I've read many horror stories about them.

The only ammo I buy at Wallyworld is clearance bargains.

Midway, Natchez, Northwest Loading, Ammoman and AIM Surplus in that order almost always.

If one doesn't have it I move to the next.
 
I wait until Bass Pro has it on sale. When they do, it is quite a bit less than Wally World. That may change, however, as I was in Bass Pro this weekend and they said that they are going to have a price increase again:cuss::cuss: (second one in a couple of months). I may have to look into reloading.

Gun show, in bulk. I drop a couple grand maybe twice a year on bulk factory-new ammo.

I saw someone mention Cabela's. For my part of the woods, Cabela's is silly expensive by gun show comparison. And we have the Cross Roads show here so often I never really have to buy ammo elsewhere.

Defense ammo I get wherever I happen to be.

Miwal Corp will be at both. Can't beat the deals. But the loaded rounds, then reload the brass.

But until then, get Blazer Brass. At our local walmart it used to be less than the Winchester White Box. And as a bonus, I found I really liked the Blazer Brass for reloading, it seems every bit as good to me as the WWB for reloading.

Has anyone else noticed the brass in those Remington yellow "mega packs" doesn't reload as well as the WWB or Blazer Brass? Mine (with R-P headstamp) feels "looser" when I seat and crimp the bullet. Still shoots ok but I like the WWB and Blazer Brass the best of the brass from my own store-bought ammo.
 
I like to buy from Eric at Ammoman.com. They have CCI Lawman .40 caliber TMJ in several bullet weights for $249/1000 now. That includes shipping.
.40 caliber Federal Classic HiShock 155 grain JHP for $269/1000, including shipping.
Hornady 180 grain XTP/JHP for $375/1000, again shipping included.

can't beat that with a stick :)
